Well, here's a new take on incorrect W-36 stripes:

xX0IcIW.jpg

Emblems are in the correct place, but the center stripe is too wide. The thin outer stripes are not supposed to be outside the 442 emblem.

Notice a lot of the 70-72 cars now have an X on the valve cover. Wonder where that all started.....

That's pretty much all the photos I took. Just snapped the ones that caught my eye and were similar to ours.

First time there, lots of great cars and a great experience!

Nice pics.

I saw the OSV Van in the background of one of the pics, I thought GM crushed that car

Wow! There where not that many cars there the day I went (Wednesday). What day did you take these pics?

Friday - I'd guess there were twice as many there Friday compared to Wednesday. I think the ideal time to be there is right before they start judging.

Nice pics! Thanks for posting. (Friday did seem to have the most cars, as we saw quite a few leaving Sat.)

That Aspen Green '70 W-30 looks like the car that Inline Tube recently completed. The silly-looking fat 'x' on the valve cover is on some of their other cars too. In a couple of W-30 magazine tests from back in the day, there is what appears to be an 'x' scribbled on the valve cover but looks NOTHING like what you see restorers doing.

Plus all the silly tags all over the underside of a few cars.

I very well may be wrong but I think that was a 72 only thing and on W-30s only. I had a 72 W-30 with 16,000 miles and it had an X from the factory there. Mine looked nothing like the ones on the restorations. I even seen it on a 350 engine at the nationals.

Yours might've looked more like this one:
