The past still lives

Aww, the good old days of ROP. Thanks to a former member of this site (who is banned) for posting this on the other site.

I wish waybackmachine was searchable, but it isn't.

I started on ROP in 2003. At one time there was more Olds info there than anywhere else. I used it long before CO as a search resource for every aspect of my 68 restoration and spent hours documenting the progress of my build. I uploaded tutorials on everything from removing a 68-69 dash to finding the correct paint codes for 68 Scarlet. Sadly crash after crash made the website irrelevant. No one would post anything of substance there as everyone knew it would never last.

I still have a few of "back in the day" posts from daveh that I cut and pasted to word files as well as an excellent thread on sourcing a cheap radiator from a P30 cargo van from 468calais. That $125 aluminum single core radiator is still cools my 455 four speed today and it never overheats

Great to see those old names. I learned a lot from those experts. If was a fun site--lots of banter.

I remember my first post asking reasons why the HP on my build was lower than would be expected. Those guys jumped all over me for my ignorance.

But it crashed one too many times for me and I discovered CO.

This is a much more polite environment but still has lots of expertise and information.

Yes, they could be brutal but helpful also. Pretty much back then I lived for the Mondello then Miller Oldsmobile meet at Norwalk. Lots of great memories of that meet. The Miller meet is hanging in due to adding Buick, very few Cadillacs have ever shown up.

I tried to join it 2 times and both times rejected. Later, someone put in a good word for me to someone else to let me in and still rejected. I figured it must have not been worth joining since you had to be someone special.

Fore me it wasn't a good fit, not much early stuff and a lot of unnecessary drama. If you wanted to go fast the formula was there with people that could help but they were to cliquey for me.... Tedd
