Recently found this when going through some extra parts provided when I purchased my 1971 442. Possible front end part, but sure could use some expert help - thanks in advance. Measures 4 1/4 inches by 1 inch. 1/4 inch thick. Metal is textured on one side

Thanks Tom and Mr. shifty! If there is one missing I’ll bet the others are missing as well - time to pull the battery and see what’s happening down there, thanks again
Amazing information available on this site! I saw this thread yesterday and was going to answer that piece was something that someone had made and surely couldn't be a factory part. But I decided to wait and see what others might say and glad I did cuz I was wrong. You guys are great!
Yes I agree, and I have them but still want to know the purpose behind using the spacer/spacers on a big block?
Is it because a 455 battery is bigger and needs to be raised a bit to clear things? IDK?
The big block cars got a larger battery than the 350 cars (see the note on the drawing that says "455 CU IN ENGINES), with a correspondingly larger tray. The spacers were likely a last minute "oh $H!T" fix when they discovered that larger tray hit the radius on the core support or inner fender.
Is this only for the later cars? My (69) tray has never fit the greatest, I slotted they mounting holes and that helped. I have looked thru the assembly manual but do recall seeing anything special about the big block cars. But I have slept a lot since then.
