Parts Place W27 cover

Well, I decided to buy a repoped W-27 from Parts Place for $69 instead of spending twice that for the TA cover (which was definitely overkill for my mild street build). Upon delivery, I eagerly opened the shipping box, and was disappointed to discover one of the fins was cracked and bent which didn’t appear to be shipping damage. I contacted Parts Place, and was surprised at his response, “Just send it back.” No apology for the damage, no offer to send another part, “Just send it back”, he said. I told him I didn’t want a refund, I just want a cover that wasn’t cracked. He said, “I can’t guarantee the next one will be any better.” Now I’m not too picky, but I paid for a new cover and the one I received was damaged; so I asked him to send me another cover and look it over for damage before shipping. “Just send it back,” he said again; so I asked him for a RMA number and return shipping instructions, he said that the return shipping will be at my expense and he will send another part only after receiving the damaged one.

After much back and forth, he still refused to pay for the return shipping so I escalated the dispute with eBay and they have given me a full refund. Now I have a cracked cover (maybe even a free cover as Parts Place hasn’t asked for it back). This is my first purchase with Parts Place and frankly, I’m astounded by his attitude and short-sightedness; he sacrificed an $84 sale (with shipping) over $30 worth of shipping ($15 each way). And I have many more parts to buy before I’m finished with my car. I know you get what you pay for, but I didn't expect this from an established retailer.

If you are gonna buy stuff on ebay buy it from Tamraz. They stock the same parts as Parts Place, they have much better customer service and they will beat parts place prices if you message them or call them. I bought a lot of stuff from them and so far so good, never had an issue if I needed to exchange something. JMO

I too have bought items from both places. Unfortunately, Tamraz does not sell everything that TPP does. Their offering is very narrow in comparison. Tamraz' customer service is far, far better however. IMO, I would call TPP back and request to speak to a manager to see if you get any more satisfaction. You could also mention that you are a member of this site, and will gladly tell the membership how good their customer service is...........

I had just the opposite experience w/TPP. I bought a Rally Pack from them with a large shipment of other parts. I didn't go to use them until about a year later and found out I had ordered the wrong ones. Called TPP and he said send them back no questions asked and sent me the correct ones right away. Sorry about your cover that sucks.

I had a similar experience with those clowns. They sent me the wrong part and I was going to have to pay for shipping to send the wrong part back to them. This was the first time I had dealt with them and the last time. Joe the owner or manager was a rude individual. Sounds like you got the better of them this time around.

This sounds a lot like the + - game that PP is noted for. I bought their W27 cover a few years back and it arrived well packed in a sturdy box. The cover was also enclosed in a plastic bag. That cover looks like it was damaged prior to even being shipped to PP. Sorry for your bad luck; I'd be upset too. On the + side, the cover you have will still function just fine and I don't know how many peeps will be crawling under the car to inspect it. Your cover is not as shiny as the one they sent me. It also appears scuffed on the side. Maybe it was a floor display??

X2 on Tamraz customer service and parts they sell. Got my dual cutout bumper from them and I'm very happy with it, their ebay store, and their shipping.

I hate to say it but I ordered rocker arm hold downs form supercars and waited 3 week and finally called and they said they were back ordered, yet the web site didn't say they were out of stock. waited another week and called again and still not in stock, so I said just forget it.
Called northern Auto and had them in 3 days.

Too

I have ordered about a dozen times from parts place. Only had one issue, when they sent a 68 harness instead of the 69 that I ordered. I called and talked to a lady. She immediately took care of it by giving me return shipping instructions on their nickel and sent the correct part. I have no reason to complain about them and their prices are very competitive.

I have to agree with Allen, I think my cover was damaged prior to shipping, and PP's immediate reply to "just send it back" makes me think they knew they shipped a damaged item hoping I would simply accept it "as is". Most conflicts in life are the result of poor communication, and my experience with PP seems to be no different. If they have a bunch of mediocre, knock-off W27 covers, then they should sell them with a proper description to set buyer expectations. Instead, it seems they are selling the covers at a significant discount (perhaps because of the blems) but describe the parts as "new". They've probably had to deal with this issue many times before my purchase.

I'm not here to bash PP or throw stones. I just wanted to know if this was PP's standard MO, and it seems that other have had very good experiences with them in resolving order issues. I also wonder if they will black-list me should I try to order from them in the future. Thanks to everyone who shared your experiences with PP; that's what I love best about this forum/community, the willingness to help others. I will most likely use them again at some point in my project.

I have no problems with TPP. I bought (2) of their W27 cover. One for my 12 bolt Chevy rear and the 12 bolt Olds rear with no problems.
