There is no claim to it being OEM or repro. I also would like to know how to tell them apart. Can't go by the part number cast into the housing - the repro has that too. Is it the inside casting? I know that an OEM one will be able to hold an extra pint of fluid. With that molding bump in, that might be the clue?

Joe is the expert on these things. I would need to see a close up but on the original the w-27 is very sharp with no rounding. The reproduction loses some of the crisp look that the originals have. That is a very nice reproduction because the ones on ebay look really bad. In addition it should already be sold for buy it now if it were real because that would be a great buy.

He is clearly representing it as original GM.

Joe, what surfaces were machined?

Was there a difference inbetween an original assembly line issued cover and a over the counter part (service replacement part, "NOS") from GM?

This is very good info. It would be great if someone could post a picture of the real deal for comparison.

But then again, why let out the secrets..........

Also, some covers were stamped with ink/paint a letter and number. This stamp is generally there on a NOS cover.
Thank you Joe, great info.

I guess with the above information, I have never seen a real original W27 cover.

Great information on the difference. I have an original 27 and a nos original cover. With this information i will make sure the nos cover is that nos. Thanks

I'm happy too. At least now I have something to go on when looking at a cover. I know mine is a repro. I was more just wanting some way to know by looking instead of having to ask all the time. Thx this was very good info.

Sorry Mike, must have missed that OEM somehow. Just went back and looked again, duhhhh. Unless someone buys it now, the selling price looks like it will be just slightly higher than a new repop. So the buyer has an out in this case if he finds the part is NOT NOS. Wonder if he will research it like you did or just accept the ebay seller claim that it is the real deal?

I sent the seller a nice note. He said do you have too much time on your hands or are you going to bid. Funny but buyer beware. I have one like the one sold on ebay that I will be selling with my junk. Thought it was real too till I got it. But very nice reproduction.

Are they showing a real GM part, I presume?
