Painted bumpers, what yall think about them???
Personally, I think anything bigger than 18" wheels on a Cutlass looks "too big". But if someone likes 20's, 22's, 24's, if it is what they really want then more power to them. It would be pretty boring if we all did our cars exactly the same. I think a lot people get caught in the "me-too" trap. One example of this is the 18" front, 20" rear wheels on muscle cars that seems to be everywhere in magazines lately. I've even seen a few 17"/20" combos. I think it looks alright on a fenderless street rod, but is totally out of proportion on a full bodied car. If someone does it to their car because they thought it looked awesome, that's cool. I'll bet most people do it because they saw a few other cars with them and thought they were "missing out" on something.
Same for the bumpers. I think body colored bumpers look better on a brighter car (like a Rallye 350) but if the owner likes it, cool.
I say do what you like, not what you think other people would like.
I've had some people tell me I've "ruined" my car, but I like it and I didn't build it for them.

While I agree with what you are saying about the 18 fornt 20 rear, I wished I had done it. But for a totally different reason. On my car because of the way the wheel wells are it creates and optical illusion on my car where the front wheels look bigger than the rear even though they are the same size. I love being able to run the same size all around and wanted as big a tire as I could fit on the front. But that meant I was limited in what I could run on the rear unless I went to more expensive wheels that would allow my to go wider which in turn would mean a much bigger tire bill. I think I could easily fit a 11-12 wide wheel in the back. And I think a 20 inch wheel would help do away with taht damn optical illusion but a taller wider tire might just do the same thing. But as it is I am more than happy with the handling so to me that is what matters.
The A bodies like mine are 7/10 of an inch smaller in the rear and it always looks like the rear tires are shorter and they really are in a little compared to the front if you use the same size all the way around. The stock wheels and tires sizes look better but you can still see it. It's only about 3/8 of an inch on each side but being in just that much just doesn't look right, they should be even with the front or out from them a little for looks IMO.
Those backward technology F-1 cars still use 14 inch wheels.
I think a 1" wheel difference looks fine on almost anything and better on some cars. I used to run 14" fronts / 15" rears on almost everything I had "back in the day". I also had the "cool" N-50-15 rear tires (which hung out of the wheelwells) with the required air shocks pumped up until they rattled your fillings to clear the tires. Rode like a buckboard and looked like a stink bug. Ahhh, foolish youth.
I remember being amazed at the new IROC Camaro because it had 16" wheels stock. Now my SRT4 has 19" and the Charger 20" wheels from the factory.
It's when the diamter difference gets 2" or more that it starts looking strange to me. Or maybe it looks normal and I'm just strange?

Either way, just my $0.02

All good points. After being in the tire and wheel business and having a passion for cars anyway it make tires and wheels a big hot button for me.
My little brother and I play a game a any big show we go to and see if a car / truck has the right wheels / tires stance combo. I can tell you right now a whole bunch more don't than do.
As Mingus said 2" stagger is a big no no on the average small / mid size car. Yes I know big$$$ builder got has can in a magazine you saw at the grocery store had 19 /22 combo on his and it looked killer so why not on your car. Well that they didn't tell you about the extensive complete redesign of the whole back of the car to get the stance right. Custom wheel tubs, custom rear frame rails, custom rear floor, etc ect. It some cases the exterior wheel openings themself are changed, stretched, raised lowered ect.
Full size cars, trucks and wagons can look pretty good with a 2" stagger. 18/20 is a good combo here.
Another huge mistake is taller sidewall in the front than the rear. This is probably my worst pet peave. You try to find tires with close to the same overall diameter but run a 18 front and 20 rear. This ends up with a rubber band in the rear and a decent sidewall in the front. This also looks goofy as hell in a full bodied car.
Another thing is the same wheel in different sizes some times does not even look right together. This problem is not as bad in custom billet wheels but some of the one piece cast stuff do a horrible job of stretching the porportions to look right.
The last big problem is backspace / offset. Custom wheels need to be fitted to a car. The one piece cast stuff ends up offering one maybe two backspace options. You have to compromise the fit on your car to what they offer.

I love the painted bumpers!!!
I dont care for the wheels and I like 20's on car, not 22's or bigger. Like others have said I dont think the style fits the car. I think if it was lowered quite a bit and had some billet 20's on it would look killer!
Either way, its your car and it looks very nice.......except the wheel style...lmao
Good job though, I like it!

Well I guess we gotta remember that these are guys personnal opinions. maybe not the way we would do it if it were our car , but it's not so as far as how the car looks overall from just a perspective opinion I think that the bumpers are very nicely done. The back flows really nicely but I think that it needs some kind of minor detaling on the front , especially around the nose that helps to make it stand out a little more. The wheels are a little too big for my taste but do add some bling to it and if that's what you were going for then mission acompilished. All in all it is pretty sharp looking and would be a head turner so don't put too much into some of the comments cause they are just personnal opinion. This is Classic Oldsmobile and a lot of guys like the original look but sharpened up if you know what I mean.
Each item has a place; Classic and Chrome just go together better and the LDRs belong an those japanese Lawn Mowers on Steroids: you know the wanna be rally cars, with the 4' exhuast systems (if you want to call them that) that cruise down your street at dusk. JMO, if it feels good - DO IT!
