Pacific Gbody serpentine conversion
Pacific Gbody serpentine conversion
Has anyone used their kit yet? They claim you can set it up for les than $600 and is available for sbo as well as bbo. Looks like a good way to tighten up the engine and free up the engine bay. https://pacificgbody.co/
It is a copy of the kit Extreme Supreme makes except they added a spacer ring, a few have done it. Basically you use a sbc truck set up with an Olds 4.3 V6 RWD reverse rotation water pump and a Ford crank pulley. I am converting my 88 over, I have nearly everything but the brackets and alternator. I have a worthless under drive aluminum crank pulley to turn into an alignment ring. I plan on buying a set hopefully next week for the conversion.
The guy that has them for sale on that site is a liar and a theif. He claims that his SBO adapter plates will fit a 403 ci. I can tell you that they will not!! He bought one of the original designs and I had to modify it for the 403 block.
Also his kit will not work with a mechanical fuel pump. Mine do.
P.S. Thanks olds307and 403 for letting people know the truth.

Take and bend a V-belt, then bend a serpentine. The thinner cross-section of a serpentine belt requires less force to flex... therefore there is less friction and lost power in the drive system. Of course, if you add some idlers, you can lose what you have gained. To me, V-belts make sense if you are running 1 or maybe 2 accessories. Anything more and a serpentine is easier to deal with, less belt tensioning, belt stacking, etc... there are positives and negatives to each, you'll need to decide what works in which situation.
Serp setups were introduced because they are cheaper and became possible with more advanced belt tech. I see Luke's point, though I would think it is insignificant around the bending radius of the pulleys commonly used (as in you're not going to bend it enough to notice.) I have had serp belt setup failure and it takes out everything. V belt failure will allow the car to keep running. A large dollar custom build, where you are changing everything, could possibly benefit from a serp belt setup, but I find the "bolt onto stock engine" retrofit setups to be devoid of any real advantage and are pushed by people with no engineering background.

Why will PacificGbody setup not fit a 403?
Thanks
That is a good question. I can tell you Larry's brackets will bolt right on a 403. Mine are currently on a 403 with a mechanical fuel pump. The bottom triangle part needs completely removed from the sbc passenger side bracket for a mechanical fuel pump to work.

Is Larry still on this site?
Here is Larry's for sale thread with his contact info. He does make a small block version
