400 engine Pulleys
Hello I own a 1966 Olds 442 with a 400 engine. I bought from E-bay a set of a aluminum pulleys. they suposse to fit 350-455 engines but they didnt fit correctly in mi car. im having this problems:
1. I think my cooling systems slows down because the temperature is going up to 220 is to hot.
2. my alternator is not chargin the battery until I rev up to 2000
3. the belts dont align correctly
this is exactly what I bought:
This has a double groove crank pulley that is 4 3/4" in diameter, a water pump pulley that is 5 7/8" in diameter, and alternator pulley (with cover included) that is 3 7/16" diameter. Free up 15-20 horsepower by using this new under-drive pulley set. These billet aluminum pulleys fit Olds 350-455 engines.
The reason why I bought this kit is because I lost my original pulleys. So now what I can do to solve this problems? does anybody know the original pulleys size that I need to have in my car?
thanks for the advices

You have an underdrive pulley set. That means that the engine turns all of the accessories, including the alternator and the water pump, more slowly.
Therefore, the water pump pumps less water, and the alternator produces less electricity.
These are for racing engines. They are not for normal driving.
You can't fix it - it is working the way it was designed to work.

Tú has respondido a su propia pregunta.

Oldsmobile uses three different length water pumps, depending on application. Your "one size fits none" set of aftermarket pulleys is designed for a different length water pump. That's why the belts don't line up. See this thread:

i run the under drive pulleys. My alternator charges fine it does run a tad hot but with a 165 thermostat it keeps it 180 while driving it will go to 210 in traffic but no higher. It will drop as soon as the car moves. Eric i too will say nice spanish I dont think i can type it that well but i am fluent lol.
We would need to know the length of the water pump to be sure and provide you with the right ones. Please check out the link Joe has in his post. It would also help to know if you have an AC car or not. Does it have power steering? Does it have the California Emissions smog pump? Are you wanting to get the original setup or just a matching set of pullys that would work? I'm sure several of us have pullys and getting the complete set from one person would increase the chance that they are a matched set that will all line up. John
My high school Spanish got me by years ago during a decade of working in "el bario," but I can't say that it's all that good. For instance, my tenses are worth crap these days.
What I can do, though, is recognize when it looks about right, so I used Google Translate, one sentence at a time, then proofread and made corrections, since sometimes Google can say some nonsensical things (It just couldn't handle "the pump pumps," for instance - we take formulations like this for granted in English, but they really are pretty hard to parse if you're not used to them. I also had my fingers crossed for "minirreductor" - for all I knew, it could have been just the right technical term, or it could have referred indecently to livestock).
Thanks, though

Im Using an Aluminum Water Pump that i Bought from Mondello and is 5 9/16". If you look at mondello web page is the AP-403
thanks
Does the car have air conditioning or power steering.? There are single groove and double groove pulleys for the water pump ( maybe triple too for AIR cars) and double and triple groove pulleys for the crank. The lower crank pulleys i believe are pretty common. You need to see what water pump pulley you need and then see if your water pump is the correct length.
