I am not doing a built yet, but I thought I would throw a few things out here for coments.
My brother and I are going to be doing this car. Some we going to do some of the work and are going to have someone else ddo it.

1969 Olds Cutlass S 350 Rocket Engine. White Interior, bucket seats,and such.

I almost was going to fall on the darkside with it... Almost a RESTOMOD. Yes I am almost ashamed
LSX, 4l60e. 9" full tilt...

Then.. I saw a flash of light... Well my big, smarter, older brother, smaking me in the head with a Snap-on wrench..
Why in the @#$% do we want to do that? I shake my head a few times and ask. What do you want to do with it?

Flash. Why don't we keep it mostly stock, with a few mods-tweeks here and there? I go hummm
So we start discusing Ideas.

Engine

1. mostly stock with good rebuild, cam, intake, headers, HEI and such

Transmission

1. Mostly stock. Upgraded.. Shift kit, Small stall convertor.

Rearend

1. 9" Ford, disc brakes
2. 350:1 Posi Diff

Cooling

1. Aftermarket New Radaitior
2. Electric Fans
3. Shrouds

Body (tough one)

1. Brown with a White Vinyl top were the factory paint.
2. Painted by our friend Solid red. He was a paint and body man his whole life. He bought it, and was the second owner. I am the third.
3. Go back with the factory red with white stripes or paint it brandywine with white stripes?
4. Replace hood with one with OEM style hood scoops.
5. Replace rear bumper with a 442 style one.. Exhaust cutouts.

Wheels and tires

1. Old school look, but updated
2. Crager SS wheels. 17" 16 might work. But not as many wheel and tire options. No 20 or 24's
3. Looking at Michelin's

Big Brother is a lifelong mechanic with Pontiac-GMC, Chevy dealership work for many years. Worked at independt shops snf finally opened his own.
Paw was a wrench turner too. Retired Pontiac-GMC dealer. Little brother(me) Started at the same Small town Pontiac-GMC dealership. But the "go west young man, go west" called me. But I went south the the big city of Houston. Pontiac-GMC dealers again... and so on... That is a whole nother story.
Late 70's early 80's said move along little doggie. So off to the big world of computers I go.. Fast Foward

Moved home after I retired.
Big Bro lives with me.

The Cutlass will be our project together.
He is 68 and I am 65.. So we are going for it. Health is somewhat of a issue for Big Brother.. So some work will need to be farmed out.

So far it looks like we have our transmisson guy, We think we have found a "crate" engine that looks good..
Have someone who will do the heavy work. A Paint shop.

From 1 Texan to another, the hobby is all about fun... Sounds like you guys are going to have some. Keep us posted on how you progress.

 

Can we see some "before" pictures?

 

Posting pictures is pretty simple. Something I didn't know until I saw it in a thread about 2 months ago. To post a pic hit the box above that looks yellow with black mountains, then drag a picture from your computer.

If the paint and body is good I'd tackle the other upgrades first, you don't want to scratch or dent new paint. Good luck with your project.

 

An olds (or BOP) 10 bolt rear from a 71 and 72 is plenty stout and upgradable as well as a bolt in, if you want to save some $ over the 9" Ford.

 

Considering that the 71-72 axles are just "corporate" Chevy 8.5" ten bolt axles with the better bolt-in axle retainers instead of the stupid C-clips. All ten-bolt gears and differentials bolt right in.

Rear View

Will this help in deturming the year? They were saying 1969... They could be wrong.. I am going to get the VIN number AND that should nail it down

 

Definitely not a 69' could be a 70' to 72' those years had horizontal lights the 69 where up into the trunk vertically. I'm more familiar with the Supreme body style and that is definitely a Cutlass "S", not sure if the 71' 72' had the chrome roof gutter rails. I remember those years being painted for some reason so I'm sticking with 70' until proven wrong. That should happen shortly.

+ 3 on it being a 70. The steering wheel is at the least. Dash is 70-72 for sure.
Also the 70, didn't have the rear qrt extenctions like the 71-72. Almost positive it's a 70.
Nice score. Have you got the rear bumper?

 

Wood grain on dash looks like 70 to me. Nice ! I love the fast back roof lines of a 68 to 72. I like keeping the olds motor! 9 inch Ford is a waste of money. A 12 bolt Chevelle should go there and will bolt right in. When it comes time for a rebuild a 455 costs as much to do as a 350... So go big. A modern 4 speed auto or over drive manual will make it drivable. Tom

 

A OK... 1970 model then.. I will get the VIN # this weekend.. No one lives at the farm yet... So I will start searching for 70 Cutlass S Models...Steering wheel has to go. lol.

Depending on where you live in our state and if you were interested, I have a set of 70 correct SS-2 wheels from my 442 project I might let go of. These have the bolt on center caps.
