What is the original coating of gas tank straps? More specifically in 1962? Every original gas tank strap I have removed, even into the early 70's, looks to be some kind of galvanize. I have seen NOS ones that are bare steel but this is not what came on the cars when new. I don't really want to paint my straps but not sure what the correct coating is?
