opinions on paint/top combo

My 71 is close to being paint ready. Going back to original paint color, 26 Viking blue. Interior all black, 980. Top code is "A" white convertible, top now is black in excellent condition...If I pull the trigger and go with white, I am not sure how this combo will look. Any thoughts.

Thanks

I have a 69 drop top 51 Trophy blue with blue top and blue interior and blue everything. Recently I saw a 69 drop top for sale [wish I had bought it.] Trophy blue with white top and white seats. it was beautiful.

IMHO, the white top will make the car stand out more than the black. It is really a sharp combo in all different light settings.

Downside it will show dirt/age more than the black.

I like the black top. I think it goes better with the blue

I believe the white top looks sharper. But, the problem with white tops is they get dirty and then they don't look as good over time. I've seen my year of 442 that's white on white and, with a new top, it looked great. In just a few years, though, it didn't look so great anymore (the owner drove it a lot and it stayed outside in Southern California). I'd be torn on this one because the original top color was white and I like things to be they way they came from the factory. In the end, though, the top can be changed at will and, if the black top is in great condition, I'd keep it for the time being. If your car stays inside most of the time and you don't drive it that much, then maybe switch back to the original white top would be in order. You've asked a hard question and all I did was waffle through a response! Best Regards, Randy C.

my intent on going ahead with the body work and paint was to bring her back to how she was made. I might as well get the use out of the black top and then decide.. Thanks for the input all. I still dont know how the original combo would look, seems like not good. Blue body good, white top good, but the black interior makes me wonder.

I just had the original white top on my '72 Cutlass replaced with a new white top. I really like it. Body color is saddle (Bronze) and the contrast is great.

I've had both. White on my 94 Supreme convertible. It was a red/white/white combo and was really sharp in my opinion. A b**** to keep clean, though. I only saw one other one like it anywhere (in LA), and whoever owned it kept the top sparkling white. Put mine to shame.
I had a black top on my 69 442 convertible though. It didn't stand out as much to me, but cleaning it was breeze.
