Olds History question

Hello,. I would like to know what Oldsmobile fascination with Airplains and Jets in there logo and some hood ornament.

Also can anyone tell me name of the guys behind the scene at there performance division.

The race to space was a big deal back in the sixties. It was on everyones mind to search out the "final frontier". Interest of rockets in general, goes back to the 40's during the war and later. I think the association with speed and of course marketing made the public more aware of it and it sure left an impression on designers too.

I can't answer your last question, but have to mention a couple old racers that had connections. Dale Smith and Joe Mondello. Even Warren Johnson later had factory supported racing enterprises. The guys back in Lansing experimental department, I don't know much about.

In the late forties and fifties the jet engine and rockets were changing and fascinating the world. Many designers were including a "rocket look" in all sorts of products. The public was watching what was only science fiction coming true.
