Oil Pressure Gauge

I am now looking for a Oil Pressure Gauge.I see that they are either electric or mechanical.I do not know which one to get. I have a plug just behing the water pump.It sits flat and has a 1/8 plug capping it.I do believe that is where the adapter goes into for the gauge,Please tell me if am wrong. After the oil pressure I want to add a water temp gauge.I also see that there is plastic ,brass and SS lines. I dont mind paying for the better quality gauges.Im look at the Auto Meter Black Diamond Gauges.I think the are all mechanical.Any advice.?

The spot you refer to just behind the water pump to the right is for oil press. Most all of the gauges out there are relatively accurate. Mechanical is usually cheaper than electric, and stay away from the plastic lines if you can.

I just installed a triple pack, water, oil, volt. If you don't run an electric choke with the pressure switch, it will be a piece of cake. If using mechanical, choose the correct adapter, fish the line through your firewall, and hook it up. Make sure you have chosen a mounting location for the gauges first.
Simply follow the directions and you'll be good to go. I went cheap (sunpro) and they work fine; other than the volt gauge sticking once in a while. And I DO have the plastic line for the oil. I was careful not to let the line rub anywhere but I do want to replace it eventually.
It's amazing the peace of mind gauges will give you. Good luck.

Experience is something you don't get until just
after you need it.

It's a piece of cake either way. I simply use a tee fitting to connect both the gauge and the electric sender. You aren't going to be constantly monitoring the gauge (at least not after the newness wears off), so keeping the idiot light is a good idea. Note that the tee fitting only works for pressure gauges. Temp gauges must be in the coolant flow with a dedicated threaded bung.

On the oil gauge, if mechanical, you would be wise to put a loop in the line to absorb the inevitable vibration that will occur.

Once you dig in there, you'll see how easy it is.

I went with the Sunpro triple gauge set-up. I used the mechanical gauges because I did not want oil running inside my car with plastic tubing. They have been if the car about a year, with no problems . Easy install also.

I've had Equus triple gauge setup with plastic tube for oil pressure, for about 6-7 years with no problems.

I had bought a 67 ElCamino a few years ago, and the PO had installed a gauge set. I hadn't given much thought about it until one day the plastic oil line blew off the back of the gauge. I have had the plastic on many cars before without any issue, and attribute it to likely a faulty install, but man, it sure made one heck of a mess. I used hard line on the last one, just because the few extra bucks are well worth reducing the chances of that happening again.
