Oil Filter Socket

Looking for a Oil Filter Socket that will fit a ‘70 455. I prefer American Made if possible. Any recommendations - what size should I be looking for ?

I've never found an oil filter socket that worked worth a damn. I've been using a version of this band style wrench since the 1970s with no issues.

I have a 1/2 dozen assorted oil filter tools, but when I did my Durango a while back, I had to borrow my neighbor's socket style to reach and undo the filter, strange place to reach. They do come in handy sometimes....Tedd

I've got both the sockets, the finger style, a strap and a chain style filter wrenches. I use the sockets more than the wrenches. No clue where they are made since I bought them 40+ years ago, but assume they are imports.

This is the one I’ve been using for 50 years, I’m sure it was made before China existed

Generally if I need a tool to remove the oil filter I like to use the large, slip joint pliers. As others have indicated, it's mostly personal preference.

On a '70 455 I'd prefer the band type with a pivoting handle if the car has factory exhaust. If it has headers or pipes in the way of moving/swinging the band type wrench then a socket may be the better option. My experience with socket type/cap style wrenches is that they slip on filters that are on too tight.

Good luck!!!

"before China existed." Excellent.

I have two of the cammed fingered Craftsmen wrenches, circa 04. They will grab ANYTHING, but you have to get them set up right to do it.
