Oh man, those dang MAWS......

It all started with the idea of just detailing the engine compartment.
While there, maybe look into the small oil leak, probably just the oil pan gasket, no biggie with the hoist.
Looking into the job, maybe pulling the engine would make more room....

....it's now a full on rebuild, .030 over, cam, headers, etc, etc, etc....

You'll be seeing more of me in the big block engine section looking for cam info and whatever else the MAWS lead me into.....

Hey Midrange,How do you like that maxjax? I was thinking of getting one. Would you recommend it? What don't you like about it? How's it perform with a big ole heavy Olds on it?
Those MAW's will get ya everytime.

I like it a lot since I didn't have the room for a full size 2 post lift. It doesn't break a sweat lifting my full size GMC truck or the Olds.

I have mine set up as more of a permanent fixture.
I removed the pump and tank from the cart and mounted them on the left column to ease up on my limited floor space.
I ran the line for the right column up and over along the ceiling. I can still remove it if needed, and coil the line up and out of the way to the ceiling.

About the only thing I didn't like about it was the set-up and tear down. I felt that I could get a vehicle in the air quicker with a jack and stands for stuff like brakes, tire rotations, etc. Which is why I installed my Maxjax the way I did.

I would recommend one if your considering the benefits of a lift over a jack and stands, and your garage height is less than 10'.
If you do get one, I also recommend skipping the supplied Wej-it anchors and go straight to the epoxy style.
I think with either type of lift, full size or the Maxjax, your floor thickness is very important. I had to re-pour a 4x5' section due to the concrete only being 3 1/2" thick for the right column. The left side was fine.

A ton of good info here:

A quick update, rear end has been re-geared with 3.73's, the engine rebuild is taking shape, cam (thanks to cutlassefi ) is on the way, POR-15 applied to the engine compartment (pics to follow), and Santa just arrived in his big brown truck.....

parts2_zpsbeaac52e.jpgparts3_zps2e5314b7.jpg

Just need exhaust, a torque converter, and time.

BTW, the MAWS are done.

Until next year......

Sweet looking ride. Good to see 3 generations involved in the project. Cost of parts do not amount to much compared with the quality time with those 2 guys! Looks like a lot of fun! Take a lot of pics. Some day the 3 of you will sit around and talk about that old Olds and smile
