My Son-In-law's Dad has a '67 442 / 455CI. Bucket seats, console, etc.. An amazing car that he has had for over 30 years, I believe. He is a veteran HRPT Long Hauler and even won a new Tremec transmission 3 - 4 years ago on the last day of the tour.
2013 HRPT 2015 HRPT? 2016 HRPT - Gas tank dropped out of car at 60 MPH. Still connected, drove to shoulder of road.
Very lucky. I don't recall if this was in Illinois or Indiana. As it was happening a local farmer, hauling a tractor, saw what happened and pulled over to help. Plus, "Jeff" had a side-kick with him. They situated the tank back under the car with a single strap and made it into town to a local shop the farmer recommended. They got it up on the lift and, of course, told Jeff he couldn't stay out in the shop due to "Insurance" reasons. Well, that didn't last long and soon Jeff, the shop owner and another mechanic were all under the car. From incident to finish the down time was about 4 hours. The shop owner refused to accept any $$$ for their efforts and wished Jeff a safe trip. Jeff still went to the local beer store and dropped off a couple cases for their efforts.
Just goes to show that there are good folks out there.

Yes there are and they lurk in the most unexpected places. I had a similar experience back in the 80's with a radiator shop on a Sunday in a very small town in Tennessee with an 87 year old owner.
