No tick tock yet...
Ordered a repop quartz clock replacement for my '72 Supreme... arrived today. Off work, and nice weather, so I got to it
Well...no go. The repop didn't fit. The original has a flat spot on the bottom of the housing to give it the necessary clearance to get the bolts to line up, and the repop doesn't have the flat spot. Try as I might, it wouldn't go.
So, I'm sending it back and doing what I should have done in the first place... ordering a rebuilt original.
And so it goes...

Good point..it was OPGI...although I don't think it's their fault...all the after market repops look exactly like the one I got from them.

Thank you.
Yes, its very possible there is only one maker, and multiple sellers.
With that said, it is the sellers resposibility to make sure repop parts fit and function as advertised, and remove deffective parts from their inventory.
Some just continue to sell bad parts to unsuspecting customers.
Are you returning your clock to OPGI?

^^^ this. Chances are the new clock is also quartz so it should be even more accurate than the old one that was right only 2x a day.... ![Wink](https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
EDIT: just looked at OPGI and it looks like you bought a replacement conversion? You might want to try Redline Gauges - they do rebuilds on just about everything. I bought a rebuilt clock unit from them years ago to go with the tic toc tach. Price was pretty good at the time. Chances are better for you to just send the whole old unit in for rebuild Dave.

Dave, I have a clock (OEM) that currently doesn't run continuously. One of my friends is coming over tomorrow and he's a clock specialist. I'll ask him about the clock and also ask if he can repair the OEM I have. Personally I'd rather have a tach in that slot than a clock, so I'll let you know after tomorrow. If he can get it running maybe we can work something out.

The one from The Parts Place looks exactly like the one from OPGI, so I'm thinking it's not gonna work either. When I get back to it, I'm gonna take some pics of the repop in the dash so everyone can see my issue.

I still advocate swapping the guts from a new one into the original. You could try to split the nuts, or grind them off, drill and tap the shafts, and install screws instead of the nuts, or cut the screw heads off and use nuts as the original did.

My OPGI clock tach is dead after 3 years and maybe 8-10 times driving the car. I am not expecting them to warrant it but cannot even get anyone on the phone to tell me where i might get it fixed. I am sending it to United Radio today as I believe them to be my best bet.
I will never buy from them again. Honestly buying from anyone other than Fusick has consistently been a mistake.
