Nitrous Oxide

Anyone using nitrous with cast pistons ? Thinking about a dry system, no more than 100 shot. Just always wanted to try for myself and have a little fun with it. I have headers and 650 cfm double pumper carb on holley intake. Whats your thought on this ?

A 100 shot with some good gas like a 50/50 race fuel would help make the pistions last less chance to detonation under duress Nos is more for the strip from what I have played with it you have to open the valve, pruge and
hope the bottle has good pressure unless you are vigilant on the set up and prep that is were things tend to go bad. keep us up to date if you go for it

A hundred shot on cast pistons would probably be fine ocasionally, but on top of the already mentioned things, when the bottle's done, so is the fun. If wanting a power adder, probably go with a small centrifugal super charger kit. This gets into a whole nother science/expense too, with intercoolers, pusher fuel pumps and more weight hanging over the front axle. Electric superchargers while once a joke, are coming into reality. BMW is currently working with a British manufacture, to make it happen.

Thanks guys ,
Nitrous would only be used occasionly at the track 1/8 mile . Car now runs 9:13 at its best weighing around 3600 lbs. Would like to be able to run upper 8s at will . Only tinkering with the nox idea now. All comments positive or negative appreciated. Thanks again . Charles

You really didn't mention much about your cu. in. or tranny/rear end set up, only cast pistions. Factory cast or hypereutectics, as some of these are pretty strong. Either way, a small nitrous shot for short periods will probably be o.k. long as you don't go lean. Also, when you go racing, things are probably going to break.

70 model 350 .060 over not sure the material pistons are made of or compression ratio, possibly 8to 8-1/2. It is fully balanced, #5 factory heads .turbo 350 auto hardshift . stock converter 3:91 posi o-type rear 275/60 drag radials.
I would probably go for less than 100 shot , if I can jet it down a little.
Makes for a good conversation piece and looks killer too. I don't want to install it if I cant have a little fun with it too sometimes. Thats what this ride is all about ,having fun.

Im looking into ZEX plate setups for next year. I guess i just want 10s!
3440# race weight, 464, torker, e-brock heads, 850Holley, th400, 3500 stall with 3.42 gears. Best last summer on a 98 degree day was 11.63 @ 113 1.6s 60 foot.
Just freshened the motor with new gaskets and bearings, clutches and other tricks to the trans, and some general maintenance.
Started thinking NOS since its a cheaper route then a rebuild for more comp. and a roller cam.
I have forged pistons, studs and straps, and its all been balanced.
Has anyone used the MSD digital timing adjuster? Seems like a good idea for changing timing withoput hassel.
Thanks
and if I can be of any help Charles, just let me know.

0.60 over and balanced, doesn't sound so stock to me, and bettin' you've got some pretty decent aftermarket pistons in there. Surely hypereutectic or forged 10:1+, unless purpose built as a blower motor. You've got a pretty nice track set up already, and good idea finding out what your engine really is. Most go 455(me included), but know a guy running a pure stock(68' I think) 350 Ram Rod Cutlass 4 speed, and really moves.

Pistons were supplied by Cornettes machine shop. I asked for flat tops only to see they had some dish in them after they balanced and installed on my rods. I went ahead and took them and yes I know they are cast. don't know the brand. Been considering a cam swap. the one I have now was for a stock 455. I would like to know more about the ram rod engines, sounds interesting.

Pretty sure most Olds pistons are dished, as the forged TRW's in my .030 over 455 are, and with the heads/gaskets I'm using, figures a bit over 10.25 CR. 350 Ram Rod was the 325 hp W-31 package, and 68's had fender piston decals telling you about it. This was giving big blocks a run for they're money. Pontiac also had a little known hi-po 350 grocery getter looking LeMans, running with the big brother GTO's.
