New purchase

Hey all.
Getting a 70 cutlass "s" could you get them with a 455?
It has a 455 f block with E heads boxed control arms power windows no air. When the guy bought this car 10 years ago he thought it was a 442.
It has all the badges, the boxed control arms the motor but a 336 vin i was wondering is it possible it left the factory with the 336 vin as a 442 i heard of this but never seen it. Dont really car either way just trying to find out what the deal is.

Pretty sure a 70 442 VIN starts with 344, so sounds like a clone with lots of good parts. You could special order most anything in those days but 442 was it's own model with different VIN codes from the Cutlass/F85. Have you seen the FAQ on this site - http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/oldsfaq.htm

Post the cowl tag info and VIN so people more knowledgable than me can help. What are your plans for the car?

Hey hook em, I think the 344 vin was only for 68 and 69 so he still may be in luck but I'm not 100 % sure on it.

Posting your vin on this site will get your question taken care of though.

Check the vin derivitive on the block against the vin on the title, and at the base of the windsheild, drivers side, if they match up, then the motor is original to the car.
