New project...L 69 tri carb intake
#41
HI WALTER
Got your message RE the screens
I will need your mailing address to ship them to you
send me an email or pmessage as you like best
To run the tri carb on my 72 I had to use a v8 68 - 72 2 barrel cable to get wide open throttle and modified the cable mounting bracket. I think I bought these parts from scott aka oldspackrat
The painted bracket is the one that is on my car. The other is an example of a "before" heating , bending , pounding 2bbl factory unit

Don't worry about rebuilding the carbs. They really are simple and easy to get working together. There are several types of jets; correct ones aren't available today (70086xx) with the 60 degree tapered inlets. I have used quadrajet jets successfully. Use the HyGrade 385 Jiffy Kits if you can find them. Be sure to use a stiff gasket under the center carb with Permatex #1 per factory recommendation to help prevent vacuum leaks--or do something more aggressive like a metal spacer, or blocking some of the passage in the underside of the carb base.
I am going to let a pro do the carbs for me,sending them to Mike W very soon.
I have read about the sealing issue between carb and manifold. Will be taking your advice!
Thank you!

Do you mean the throttle body gasket or the base gasket?

I meant the gasket between the carb and the manifold. The AL and AU manifolds had small pads that did not fully cover the vacuum "tunnels" in the iron base of the carb, so you wold get a vacuum leak if you didn't use a stiff gasket and sealer. I re-read the above posts and all I can say is that the carbs are not hard to set up, just follow the directions in the Feb 66 bulletin.

Listen to Rund, he knows his ****..Tricarbs are basically just like pontiac tripower units..the out board carbs are fuel dumps, nothing to tune other than make sure the linkage rods are adjusted correctly so they aren’t cracked open at idle. Its a very simple system. You can buy the rebuild kits and do it yourself, buy the kits from a tricarb person..not autozone, however if they are old lots of use units I would ship them off to havethe throttle plate bushings checked and all components cleaned and working correctly. I own a 66 tricarb now, and have owned several pontiac units. People make it sound like you hav3 to be some type of magician to keep them tuned..just not true..outside setting up the center carb and putting quality kits , quality repro fuel lines to eliminate leaks they are simple units.
