New fuel tank – Clear coat or not to clear coat?

I will be installing a new tank soon. Tank appears to be coated, not sure what the coating is (still researching...) , and is made with ni-terne steel. Is there a need to clear coat? - Any one out there with a non -clear coated tank - any issues...thank you

Install as is. The coating is a rust inhibitor. Did this last year. Is it a Spectra tank?

Spectra is one of the best tanks made. If your car is a 1970 you might want to put in a tank pad on top. 70 was the last year they did that IIRC. If you're interested call Patton Glade - he makes and sells them. He's a 1970 Olds A body specialist.

Spray the tank with Boeshield and install with rubber gloves. The finish will last a good long time.

I clear coated my new tank several years ago before installing, still looks new.
