Need some advice on where to go with this project....

Good morning. I have been an occasional participant in this forum over the years, and have bought many things from folks here. My projects have included a 71 Cutlass convertible that was crushed by a tree during hurricane Gustav in 2008, and a 70 Supreme coupe (may have been an SX... not sure) that i currently have sitting in my garage. I have moved from Flower Mound, Tx, to Mandeville, LA, to Baton Rouge, LA to Houma, LA where I currently live. The hardtop has followed me everywhere, as has most of the parts, though some have been sold or misplaced along the way.

Due to space limitations, almost all the work for the last 10 years has been done at my Dads house, and the car kept covered, but outside. It seems that every time I would grab a weekend to go work on it, it was redoing something we did last time due to it sitting outside. Recently, I moved the car to my house to keep it inside a garage, but the garage still gets humid during the summer. So here is the deal... I have kind of lost interest in completing the project. I take two steps forward and one step back. I have a rebuilt 400 transmission that was completed in 2007, and a 455 out of a 71 Vista Cruiser that was rebuilt in 2007, then gone over and tested again in 2015. The Chassis was powdercoated in 2007, as was some of the suspension parts. We completely rebuilt the chassis in 2014, the put the body on. The body has had 95% of the body work done to it, and the only rust is in the rear window channel, though I have a new deck-lid extension piece to replace it. I have almost all the parts needed to finish and reassemble. But yet it just sits there...

A part of me wants to finish what I started, but another knows I have so much other stuff to do that it may never get done. Not too worried about what it will cost me to finish it, that's not the point. I thought if I moved it down here it would be close by so I could work on it... Yet here it sits. (In fairness, my small garage is also being used to house 2 motorcycles I no longer ride either... Anyone want a a motorcycle, LOL)

Need some advice... or inspiration. I am sitting here spinning my tires and not sure which way to go.

Thanks for listening... let the games begin, haha!

I'm all for letting things go if you don't get any joy in return for having it. Its the same for cars, guns or guitars for me. Move it along, trade up trade down but find what does make you happy. Sometimes the space it once held is more valuable that than the object.

Looks like a great project. I know you've spent countless hours on it. Good luck in your decision.

Take some time to evaluate what makes you happy and what direction you want to go. No one has the answer except you. I did the same thing a few years ago, discovered "Classic Oldsmobile" and am moving forward with my Oldsmobile's. I wish you luck on your decision.

Sometimes all it takes is a bit of motivation and turning that first wrench may be inspirational. Perhaps you could find a local car buddy to share projects with and motivate you. If there really is absolutely no interest in completing your project, then cut your losses and get rid of it.

I think it depends upon what you enjoy more: working on a project or driving a finished car.

I'm getting to that same point. I have so many projects that none get worked on. You just have to decide what you're passionate about. If you look at it and think about it and you don't feel passion for it, get rid of it.

If you decide to keep it, that's great! Just do something, anything to it on a regular basis. Visual Progress should not be underestimated.

When doing my projects, I realized I enjoyed the mechanical aspects. I wasn't keen on body work or upholstery. I farmed-out those bits.

If it's not about the money, and you look forward to the finished product, then you could do what you have interest in and have others finish it.

Thanks guys. I will say, going through some of these threads make me want to get back on it... Gonna give it a few weeks to think about, then make a decision.

Well, after many hours. days, and weeks of soul-searching, I have decided to sell the project. I have it listed as a "kit", LOL! I really have no idea what something like this is worth, though. If it doesn't get a bite in a few weeks, I will think about parting it out.
