Need help picking a carburetor, 1966 Toronado
Hey guys leaning on your much more knowledgeable selves here. My Toro has an Edelbrock on it now and is having crazy hood clearance issues since the carb needs two spacers just to clear the intake manifold. I'm thinking it's time to go back to the original Quadrajet and just sell the Edelbrock.
I'm looking on eBay and a few other places. There are a few on there from 71 Toros for under $200. I'm just starting my classic car addiction and I'm not super knowledgeable. Can I just slap that 71 Quadra on there? Are there only certain models I can use? Thanks guys.

The Toro carbs must have a different style throttle lever.
This si great advice so far guys, thanks so much for taking the time. I have experienced the same issues with clearance and things bumping into the intake with an aftermarket edelbroke carb Kevdog442, which is exactly why I'm here talking to you fine people.
Use a Toro QJET for throttle arm fitment. You can, sometimes, swap base plates to retain your throttle arm. The '66 models have some less than ideal features like the over-top damper, unusual inlet valve, etc.
I think you BEST bet is a nice factory issue 67 Toro Carb. I know where to find some that have been on the shelf for years, and as long as the correct arm and such can be verified, should be a painless install. I think the guy is in the range of $300 delivered usa 48 states.
71 will have many diffs
throttle arm and trans kickdown features
choke type
cable attachment
inlet fwd instead of side like 66-67 Tor
damper mechanism
secondary lockout
maybe more

stay away for 66-67 q jets...they have issues..and some very specific things that are common to break and impossible to fix..one is the float assy...the support breaks just taking it apart if you arent extremely careful
by mid 68 they really got the things right..its easy to tell..if it has the round tag for ID dont buy it if the number is stamped on the fuel bowl you can be pretty sure it has all the updates..and parts are easy to get etc...
id look for a 68 or 69 carb if i had top buy one..just my opinion...the only early q-iets i can sell are the 68 up...no one wants the real early one unless its a resto type deal..and ive thrown more than a few in the dumpster they just have issues with them
