My place is 25 wide, 50 deep. I only second deck out 16 feet, leaves the rest open. Hoist is to the one side. Leaves room to pull in, or one car on hoist, drive under to the back. Works out great.

Just an up date on the shop.

Still no lift, but I finally quit using cement blocks.

I've also added color to the shop by putting up some automotive banners. I have a couple of tire banners, a metal coke sign, and a Magna Flow banner. Nothing special, just stuff I find cool.

Careful with those car dollies, they look similar to a set I have which failed while under a '79 Cutlass. Make sure the tires are centered on them...I made what appears to be the mistake of putting the outside edge of the dolly up to the sidewall (I kept catching my ankles on the damned corners of the dollies) and the metal where the casters bolt up folded.

I'll probably straighten and reinforce with angle iron to prevent future problems.

Thanks for the advise. I am not to happy with them. The wheels are small and get hung up on everything, including dust. LOL

True that! There are definitely better ones out there.

I've got two sets of that style that have worked fine under old VW Bugs, but that was the first time I put them under a full size car.

I am already looking at renewing my lease. If the land lord continues to work with me I plan on doing some upgrades this year.

What up grades do you have in mind?

Has your land lord been ok with what you do in the building?

Gene,

I am somewhat organized and I keep the place clean so no one is complaining. I am hoping it stays that way.

I want to build a floor above the bathroom and put frame in a wall along the back side that I can hang parts from and or build shelves on. Right now it's mostly exposed insulation and I can't hang anything from it. Where there is a wall it is an old style composite that won't hold up to anything.

Again, look into pallet racks, like the ones at "Home depot". I went to a place that deals with pallet racks and bought used stuff, much cheaper that way. I used 12 ft wide load beams and 10 ft tall up rites. I put plywood on the up rites and some shelfs and hooks to hang things. I used one inch plywood for flooring. For me I came out 16 ft from the back, it keeps a lot of floor space clear. Like you I used shelving to put small things up top.
Looking good.
seams like you find a lot of cars that need help or use to help others. Good job.

This is great advise, I will definitely be looking into it.

Buying complete cars helps me out tremendously on my builds and seems to be providing a lot of help to others as well. And I love doing it.

Thanks
Tom

Oldsmobile only shop

The use of pallet racks.
I've only been in this shop for few months, still have a lot of clean up and organize to do.
Had to move all of a sudden, long story.
