Mufflers suggestions

Mufflers suggestions
Got mid length headers, 2.5 inch Pypes system, NO H pipe, with Dyno Max turbo mufflers currently. Love the sound but the cruising down the interstate is getting a little too loud for my "older" tastes.
Any suggestions on something a bit quieter that will still give me some muscle car sound. Don't want something that sounds like a mustang or European car.

Why not go back to OEM style? Gardner Exhaust makes a killer system for your car that sounds factory and is available in stainless as well. When I messaged them they were very forthcoming about their product, quality and shipping. Gardner Exhaust

Dynomax Super Turbos are probably the quietest turbo muffler on the market and they flow very well. I would suggest putting in an H pipe. If that doesn't help enough then you could put in resonators. The next thing would be to go to stock mufflers. JMO.

You should take your car to a local exhaust shop and ask the propeitor the same question. If they give you a dumb stare then find another shop. Otherwise, they will have a suggestion and can give you a price on istall.

I have a Dynomax Super Turbo on my 2012 Expedition and it sounds just right. It has a low tone slightly gurgling sound to it. I added a K&N fresh air intake to it. When I really punch it sounds a lot more powerful than it is. Problem is my wife thinks I am driving a lot faster than I am.

Magnaflows are typically louder than Dynomax. About the only option here that maintains some semblance of a performance flow rate is the Walker Quiet-Flow series. I recently bought a pair of these in 2.5" to try, but have not yet installed them. On-line reviews speak highly of them, but they are quieter than Dynomax. The reviews tout them as good for a sleeper.

I’m running 3 inch DynoMax Ultra Fliws on my car, with a X pipe. The car has a good rumble, but is quiet enough for a conversation without yelling. I did put some Dynomat on the floorboards when I replaced the carpet.

You might consider glasspacks. I have 45"x2.5" Thrush glasspacks on my 71 and they sound great. Traditionally glasspacks have more of a drone over mufflers. However, I've found that the longer glasspacks do a better job than the shorter ones. Plus, once they "mature" they have a really mellow sound... then again maybe I just say that because 12 years around Army and FAA radars has made me deaf.

The fundamental problem here is that muffler sound quality and volume is extremely subjective. One person's "obnoxious droning" is another person's "great musclecar sound". Listening to audio on your computer is worthless, since the only certainty is that what comes out of the speakers will be different from how the car sounds in real life.

Hijacking a slightly dated thread here, but I just today had an exhaust system installed on my 67 CS Convertible. I read thread after thread about exhaust, listened to a million samples online, and somehow got led into MAGNAFLOWS. Honestly didn’t really know what drone was, but I sure do now! It’s like sonic terrorism at 1700-1900 RPM!! It’s probably what the Russians used to give our Cuban diplomats brain damage. 😆 Car performs a little better, but if that’s the price...NO THANKS. Coming off tomorrow!
p.s. setup is Thornton 350 JR manifolds, 2.5 Pypes 409 Stainless with X, and Magna-drones

I like the sound of 50 series flowmasters. 3 chamber, not the 2 like a 40 or 44. BTW, a lot of times the quieter the exhaust gets from the outside or riding behind the worse the drone is. I have a friend that has a 98 Mustang Cobra with the 32 valve dual overhead cam engine. He has no cat and just straight exhaust, no muffler or resonator. It sound like war following him but has no drone in the car. My 92 GMC truck, 350, no cat and dumps before the axle and am using a 3 inch 50 series stainless flowmaster and it has no drone at all. The 40 series I had on it when I had a cat converter droned like mad. I couldn't wait to hit the 25yr mark so I could scrap that converter
