I am changing the oil in the 72 Cutlass Supreme this weekend. 64k on the clock. My thought is to let a quart of the existing oil drain that has been run this season (500 mi. ,and very little last season) Replace the level with a quart of Marvels and run it to operating temp.

Drain, and replace filter and oil refill with Mobil 10w30 5000 mi synthetic blend.

My concern is...? if there is some loose gunk am I going to clog important ports.

I am not a motor guy but common sense says the Marvels should solidify the potential gunk and help clean Vs just a typical drain.

What say you?

Thanks for the help.

Keith

Modern oils are plenty detergent. Sounds like you don't neglect your engines, so I doubt there is much gunk inside.

This is what we do if the engine has a stuck lifter, I don't recommend it for an engine that runs fine. Just perform a normal oil change.

Ok bw and Eric I will plan on good warm up and drain it without the Marvels.

I did use Marvels in the past that way with my Simplicity Rider that was puffing black smoke on occasion and had a miss, anyway it ran good after that treatment.

Yes the current oil in the Olds looks real clean and runs fine.

Just thinking a good cleaning wouldn't be the worst... Thanks
