Sounds really cool. I think you're getting a fun car for a good price. Let us know how it all finally goes.

Good luck with it. I had a 96 with a 4.0 that i sold earlier this year. It had ~230,000 miles on the original motor and transmission.

I currently own a Pearl White 01 with a 3.5 that i bought end of last year. 73,000 miles and bought it whosale for 1300. It needed an air pump and ISS.

Auroras are known for ISS failure, requires dropping the cradle to service a $30 sensor. Not a hard job to do but a tranny shop will charge a lot for the job.

01s are knowN for taking water into the air pump. Its an easy fix but the pump kit is a little pricey.

I love both cars. The 96 was the Autobahn version with Bose sound. It was a really nice car. I love the 01 too. Rides really nice and AC is very very cold.

If you need help please hit me up. Ive done every common repair to these. I also have the 01 service manual if you need something looked up.

Good luck.

I think that's the problem I have with my 01 Intrigue that makes the "service engine soon" light come on. The Air injection Pump or something like that. They "un-stuck" it last fall, and knock on wood, it's not given me any trouble thus far! I did put over $400.00 in it before they un-stuck it the 2nd time I took it in for that light coming on. I remember them saying something about water can get in it. I know it's expensive!

Thanks Pete. This will be my first Aurora. As long as the carfax and lein report comes back clean, I'll pick her up tomorrow.

I just remembered at a car show last year I paid $40 for $200 worth of coupons at this mechanic shop. Heard good reviews about them so I'll have them do some work on it. I have a few buddies that can tear a car down and put it back together again.....with no parts left over

I also have a 98 Intrigue (Autobahn) and so far so good. Of course I bought that car for $1000 off my mother-in law after she toasted the engine because she drove it when it peaked, due to the intake manifold gasket. Bought a 3.8 Series II with about 60,000 miles on it and it runs great. Hope to make the Aurora do the same.

I appreciate the willingness to help. Thanks a lot. I may take you up on that one day. I'll post pictures if all goes as planned.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the car. Hopefully the shop can tune it up for a decent price and then you will have a good driver.

The retro kit that comes with the replacement pump takes air in from up inside the fender, sort of like a snorkel. The original pull air in from down by the frame rail and they take in water along with air.

I think rockauto was the best price around.

I dont know if it is common or a result of the pump seizing up but the power feed also melted. If and when you have to replace it check the wire and make sure it isnt brittle or melted.

Keep us posted Ken.

Ok, here she is...all $800 dollars worth. Drove the 35 miles from the airport to my house with no issues. Had the cruise on and the air. The air conditioner really blows cold. Damn near cut glass with my nipples. The windows are aftermarket tinted but look OK. So now to start tinkering. Oh yeah, the car also comes with a rear decklid spoiler.

Those pics look good. Did you detail the car before those pics or is that the way you bought it?

The first group of pictures are the way I bought it. I washed the car when I got it home but the interior, trunk and engine pix are the way it came.

The body on that car is pristine! Especially being a car from up north. It will shine and gleam when you wax and detail it. I hope you can get it running right. Keep us posted.

In the east if a car isn't taken car of, it will rust through. Not so much on the prairies. The weather is dry and in winter there is not a lot of snow, not like the east. And when you make it to the coast, you get even less snow there. So I'll go for the tune up when I go on vacation in a week.

She'll be close to the stable. The 442 likes to live alone.

Nice looking car; I wish you the best of luck with it. Any good looking and driving car with decent tires and working AC has GOT to be worth 800-1000 bucks. Only thing that would scare me is if it became a money pit to address the engine issues or anything else that crops up.

I'm a little skeptical of these beasts (ie. the last gen Auroras), have looked at a few, but never "bit". I agree with a prev. poster who said to stick with the 3800 powered cars. I got two of them, a 1988 Lesabre and a 1998 Intrigue. The "newer" cars scare me, haw haw!

Well bought.

I noticed the air on the 01 is much colder than my 96 (the 96 vent was too close to the heater core). I have my 01 down to 38 degrees

Hit me up anytime for info or help.

good to know 38 is considered very cold - I have that in the Toronado and 88 - close in the wagon
