It was an air conditioned car originally too... has an aftermarket heater box to cover the firewall holes.

Go back and look at the photo I posted in response to the first time you asked this.

The vinyl top is glued to the metal roof. It is not a convertible top colour code, it is a vinyl top colour code.

No, Olds NEVER installed a rear wing on the 1968 cars - the wing didn't exist in that model year. The first use of the wing was the 1969 Hurst Olds, and that was the ONLY car that got the wing in 1969. For 1970-71 the wing was available on any Sport Coupe or Holiday Coupe under RPO W-35. It was dropped as an option for the 1972 model year, though many have had it added.

Since the shop or seller is misinformed about the wing (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt), you should determine what else about the car is not true before you put down real money. For starters, verify that the VIN starts out 344778xxxxxxx to ensure this is a real 1968 442 Sport Coupe and not a clone. Good luck.
What does it mean if the VIN is a 344878 verses a 344778 ?

Just joined to be nosy!

Did you go view it in the end? Or take the plunge and buy it?

I went to see that car and it needs rust repairs on the bottoms of the doors and so on. Plus paint to fix a horizontal split in the C pillar both sides (Guessing where the vinyl used to end). It's also missing some trim inside on what would be the B-pillar I guess as this is a sport coupe. Having said that it's pretty tidy and for the money it's a nice car over all, just needs some TLC on the body work.

Id.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I did view it - and then I brought it. There's a lot of work to be done but she's lovely.

I've removed the spoiler / sorted the rust and had her painted. A long way to go yet, but a big thank you to every one who helped me on this post.

vinyl tops were very common back in the day. Many now eliminate them for a cleaner look. Some look great with them and some not. Back to personal preference. It seems to be a nice car.

Thanks Larry.

I was disappointed that I didn't ask for 442 fender emblems to be moved back when it was being repainted so I could get the stripes on. I only just realised after that if I did stripes now they would be incorrect. Typical.

The '68 is my favorite of the 68-72 gen cars due to the head and tail lights setup. Looks meaner.

To be honest, I haven’t been out in it much. Still sorting a few issues with the garage. All should be sorted soon.
