Locked out!!

Locked out!!
So my son has a 72 Cutlass Supreme, and he lost his keys (all of them - the ignition, trunk and driver door.) He has a new ignition key, but cannot lock his door because he has no key to open it. Does he have to get a new driver door lock cylinder, or is there a way to get a key remade for it (that doesn't costs $100 from a locksmith)? Same with his trunk. No key to open it. Does he need an entirely new trunk lock cylinder? And can he get into the trunk through the back seat? Thanks for any assistance! Of course getting spares made would have saved all this trouble, but teenagers, ya know!!??

He needs to take the cylinder to a regular locksmith, who should be able to make up a key for $20-30, as he only needs to read the code off the side of the cylinder and cut the key.
We also have at least one member here who can do the same thing for a minimal fee.
The door key should open the trunk.
Also, he should make some copies of his keys, in case he loses them.

He should also suffer the consequences of losing the one and only key set, so that he learns to keep more than one set around. Wait until you get to the modern cars with the $200 EACH magic keys that you can only program a new one of if you already have two working ones on hand, or go to the sdealer, and $$$$$$$.

Door cylinder can be easily removed once the door panel is off. Trunk can be accessed by removing the seat back and using extensions on a ratchet (a lot of extensions!!) to unbolt the trunk latch. I think I used about 4 feet of extensions to open mine.

If the locks have never been changed, shouldn't the ignition key unlock the door in 72.... If not then remove the door lock cylinder and use the code stamped on the barrel of the lock to have a new key made... On the flip side use the glove box door lock cylinder code to make a key for the trunk... this will depend upon whether or not the lock codes match....

Yes, on a '72 the door and ignition use one key while the glove box, console (if equipped) and trunk use a different key.
Now someone could have replaced any of the lock cylinders without re-keying them and those would use a different key than all the others.

If you can remove the door lock cylinder and read the four character stamped on it, I can punch out a new key for you from that code. $10 for the first key and $2 for each subsequent duplicate, mailed to your door. PM me for more info.
