Thumbs up Local Cruise Night

A few months ago, they cranked up the famous Van Nuys Blvd cruise nights again. Last night was the 3rd month they've been doing this and was by far the most popular. Even had about a dozen Olds show up that I saw, there was more out cruising, saw some old friends and made several more. Oddly enough, the lot we were in was once owned by Century Olds, the same lot my car came from new as well as several others that were there. Here's a few pics I took DSC00246.jpg DSC00247.jpg DSC00248.jpg DSC00249.jpg DSC00245.jpg DSC00244.jpg DSC00241.jpg DSC00240.jpg

Yes, it was Pioneer Olds on Lankershim Blvd just north of the 134 freeway. It's now North Hollywood Toyota. We used to have our club meetings there years ago.

So what happened to all the anti-cruising (and loitering) ordinances that they put into place to kill the Van Nuys cruise in the first place? One of my great disappointments was that they killed the original Van Nuys cruise only a few months before I moved to SoCal in 1980.

I used to work in Burbank as well for the friendly local police impound towing company.

I don't know what happened to those, what I do know is there were alot of cops cruising around as well. There wasn't alot of stupidity going on which I'm sure contributed to it getting shut down back then. We're alot older and a little wiser (or flip that last sentence, I don't know, lol) then back in the day.

Great to hear about VN Blvd. again. I had no idea they stopped Cruising there. But it;s good to know it is back. I am from Van Nuys. Went to Van Nuys High and loved the cruise scene Weds and Fri nights (Sat being "Date Night"). Can anyone still relate to that?

I did some research about what happened to the cruise scene on VN Blvd. In 1979, the Blvd. became a haven for the local gangs so the police shut it down, plain and simple. Hopefully, it will come back to what it was before the gang activity. It was one good time back in the 60's, from June Ellen's Donut shop to Bob's Big Boy and on to A&W near Osborn (from Ventura Blvd to Osborn) . About a 6-8 mile stretch.. The cruise scene there actually started in the 50's.
