Local Car Show

I went to a local car show today in Jacksonville Oregon. It was small, maybe 75 cars. But I was pleased to see several Oldsmobiles and meet some new Olds people I'd not crossed paths with yet. There was one 1957 with the J-2 carb setup. One 1962 Olds 98 and a 1962 Starfire. All three of these cars were restored to original and very nice. Then a 1965 Cutlass convert and a 1967 F85 that was rough but being driven. The 1967 had rubber floor mats that were still in good shape, white exterior and red interior. No trim around the door windows, but it was an AC car and although it only had the 3 groove pulleys I could see the California smog holes plugged and the tall oil fill tube. No smog pump which didn't surprise me, but I was expecting to see the 4 groove pulleys. Attached are a few pictures although I now realize I didn't get good ones of the 65 & 67. John

Then I have to include a couple photos of my friends car. He and his wife purchased this 1964 GTO convertible off the show room floor and have kept it all these years. They restored it maybe 15 years ago.

Thanks for sharing.
In the UK it seems that the number of cars at the shows has declined over recent years, but the quality of the cars that do attend is much higher than it used to be. I'm talking in general terms, some shows get big attendances, and I take my cars, so a few less than perfect ones still show up!.
Is this a trend your side of the Pond as well?.

I also went to a car show in Walla Walla WA. and saw a 1971 Olds 442 that has stayed in the family. Its great to see these cars still rolling.

Always some great car shows down your way! My brother used to come over to Grants Pass and the Medford area with his '68 4-4-2 because he liked those shows so much. I'm hoping to make it down there one of these years!

My experience in the upper Midwest area of the US is that there are more cars of ridiculous build quality. Everyone is making them now and the aftermarket supplies their every need. On top of that, every weekend (and many Sundays), are filled with car shows from March until late October. They toss in Raffles and swap meets, maybe something for the Wife and Kids like Antiques and bouncy houses, and the people begin to swarm in!

I have well over 300 Dash Plaques from events I've attended in the last 8 years and the shows just keep getting larger.

Thanks for sharing John,

The largest show here in Central Oregon is the Flashback Cruise always in August. It is a 3 day event and has some 400 cars usually. I have been in that show for a few years and last year we had two Oldsmobiles in it. The gal who does allot to put it on is getting old and spent over 2 hours on the mic talking about old time stuff she remembered and we had been there all day since 6 am and at 5 pm I had enough of listening to her talk and talk and talk about nothing. They could not locate the trophies and with that and her going on and on about nothing I choose not to put my cars in the show this year at $65 per car. It was a long day without her ranting. After doing the show this long they should have had it done right.

I will do other shows till they fix that issue

Thanks for the show pics John. Some day the wife and I will venture north again fore a couple Oregon shows, we love the area. Have you ever attended the Grants Pass show? It's my favorite of all the north west shows, great venue, good people and a super cruse to boot.... Tedd

Hi Tedd
I've been to it a couple times, but I've had to work that weekend more often than not. I'm crunching the numbers right now to see if I can retire early, I'm hoping for this winter. Then I can get serious about restoring something and finish off a few parts cars. Over the years I've collected 11 project cars plus lots of parts and daydream about restoring them. But I know that I'll never have the time and money to do them all. I do want to get a couple done that I can take to the shows and enjoy

Larry, the times I've made the Grants Pass swap meet I've been surprised how many people attend. Not a huge demand for Olds parts, but the items that interchange with other GM stuff should be hot. You might consider bringing down a trailer and setting up a booth if you have time. John

Might be a long trip Randy!:

The WA in question is Western Australia, a long way from North West America.
