Lead on a pair of 455s

This was in the local paper earlier this week. Don't know who has it, phone number looks about 50 miles from here. As you see the descriptions are "questionable" but $800 for two 455s with transmissions might not be a bad deal.

FOR SALE:

Two Oldsmobile 455 engines: 1968 W-31 and 1972 390 HP and two 400 Turbo trans, one short tailshaft and one long, all for $800. Call 434-585-2728 or 265-3058.

I thought about it, but I know I'd end up arguing with a stump about a 1968 W-31 455. There's always the chance it's a D-head 455 out of a 68 Hurst, but.

If thet are 50 miles away go and have a look, take a pick up truck or trailer.
If they are all complete they are worth $800 of anyones money IMO.

Roger.

The first number comes up as:

Experimental Aircraft Assn
7130 Red Bank Rd
Virgilina, VA 24598
434-585-2728

That alone would make me want to take a trip to see what they are

I guess I'm selling a pair of mine too cheap...$500. One runs decent and one has a rod knock.

I'm with you "Bolds" as never heard of a 72' 390 hp motor either. This year were all sae rated 8.50 compression motors, and think around 270-300 hp was it. Also "Cutlass" did you pull the pan and rod caps, looking into the knock. Sometimes a stiff piston pin will cause piston slap, sounding similar.

No but it ran low on oil though so I was thinking bearing.

Remember guys- I said the descriptions were questionable. All of us know there's no such thing as either engine as they're described, but a lot of folks get into buzzwords when they're selling stuff like this and count on inexperienced people to bite.

I have a friend who's originally from that area. Ought to send him to look at them. He's mainly a Chevrolet guy, but knows his way around an Oldsmobile too.

Plus he's way more diplomatic than I am. He's the kind of Southerner who can tell someone to go to hell in such a way that by the time he's finished, the object of wrath has packed his bags and is looking forward to the trip.

If you have a chiltons manual of that era it gives all the specs on the engines. After 70-71 horse power plummeted. Some different pistons and heads you can take any newer engine to great heights
