Last car show, probably, some Buick dealer in Evansville
Dug out the H/O and went to a local car show with a buddy. This was an MS benefit thrown at a local car dealer. Not sure I'll go back, it was a little packed. I got a nice weird parking spot but someone parked a hooptie right next to me that I wish had stayed clear. Overcast, cool, and windy. Might be done for the year for shows.
The blue F150 wouldn't have happened to say "Lightning" on it, would it?😋 Yah I know they didn't come in blue...
My cousin's kid had a Lightning and Tyler had no idea what he had. He treated it like a farm truck. Finally totaled it on ice.
Kinda sad that some of the fastest things GM, Ford and Mopar built in the 90s were trucks.
There was a Lightning, it was black, and the next generation.

I was surprised there were four there. A hooptie is a slang term for ragged out car you find in the ghetto. This one was not ragged out, but it was a slammed mid 90s Impala with big wheels, tint, and loud exhaust. I didn't mind the car, but it, and the people around it, congregated too close to mine for my liking. Too many people think they can lean on other people's cars.

That's not a hooptie, that's a donk. Some call 90s Caprices bubbles. 65-77 are the traditional donk. 77-90 are "boxes". Raised ones are hi-risers, slammed are lo-risers. Not my style anyway.
A lot of G-body Cutlasses have been ruined by that crowd. I never heard how many of the cars stolen from the 2009 H/OCA meet were recovered. There was never any doubt in my mind they were stolen to be turned into those abominations.
Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like people getting too close. Lean on my car and I'll call you out. It's a matter of common courtesy and respect for someone else's property.
I believe 1 of the 3 H/Os stolen was recovered in poor shape and is being fixed. The others were not.
As a result, the H/OCA now stays in hotels in better areas, and we don't advertise the national meet in anything but Thunder & Lightning and our website so as to not broadcast our location to everyone.
As always thank you for all the pictures. Looks like Corvette day. Plenty of nice cars. 65 GTO is one my all time favorites. Nice LeMans / Tempest too. Stripe crazy on the Monte and the El Camino. Gotta love car people. Well except fools leaning on your car. So disrespectful. Hope you had a good time.
I believe the 64 Impala has a special place as it was the car that some event happened during the civil rights era to get the first one in a black area of town dealership in LA. The 63 Impala was used in Boys in the Hood, a seminal gangsta movie. Rappers will lyricize about their Six Fo, which is referring to the 64 Impala.
John, I had to learn the distinctions by necessity. Those cars were all over the place here and started hitting cruise nights in force, along with the people they attracted.
One of them wanted my 76 Ninety Eight bad. Worried the hell out of me bugging me for it. The reply was always the same "It's not for sale" or if I was especially aggravated "do you see a for sale sign on it?".

Interesting, I never heard that about the '64 Impala. When I was in high school in the '80's, my best friend drove a '64 Impala SS with the 327 and powerglide. His family owned it since it was a year or two old and it got passed down to him. Was in pretty decent shape at the time and he wasn't afraid to beat on it. That was a pretty big car but it was definitely quick. I went by the house where his family still lives a few years ago and that Impala is sitting in the yard in tall grass now in very rough shape. I guess he never wanted to part with it.

From 1977-9 I had a '64 409/400/M-20. Not an SS though.
Thank you for the pictures Koda. The Ko-Motion Corvette that you have pictured (if it’s the original car) is originally from Queens, NY. The original owner of the car, Charles Snyder, known locally as Chas-Astoria, bought it brand new in 1967 at Baldwin Chevrolet (aka Motion) in Long Island, NY where it was modified for drag racing. The stock 427/435 block was replaced with a factory replacement L-88 block. It was a famous drag racing car at the time. I believe the owner might have raced the car at the Connecting Highway, a famous Queens NY street drag racing spot a couple of times in 1967. The original owner was sent off to Vietnam in 1968 where unfortunately he was Killed in Action at a very young age. Charlie’s friends raced the car one more time and set a record at 11.09/129 mph.
His sister kept the car in her garage. It was never driven again but it was stored properly and looked after from what I heard. 1,900 original miles. She just couldn’t stand to look at it - and no one would ask her about it because of the raw emotions that she had about her brothers death. It was a pretty famous East Coast drag racing car. His sister decided to sell the car in the early 2000’s and the car was put in a few car shows. It has been restored to all its former glory. There are Revell plastic models of the car that were sold back in the day. The original owner died a hero and made the ultimate sacrifice - I’m sure he’s still very proud of his Corvette.
