Lansing built
In some other threads, it was mentioned that some dealers preferred Lansing made cars when ordering.
When looking for your Oldsmobile, was this a factor in your purchase besides the obvious W cars and H/O's?

I'm thinking that, back in the time, the only people that knew this was the dealers. Even when I bought my used '69 4-4-2 convertible in 1987, it didn't make any difference to me as to where it was built (the '69 was a Fremont car as I later found out).
I met and talked with the President of the Olds dealership that sold my '68 4-4-2 convertible to my dad when the '68 was new. That's the first question he asked me when I talked with that Olds dealership President - was my car a Lansing car or a Fremont car (his dealership was in coastal Oregon and he got A-body cars from both Lansing and Fremont). When I told him it was a Lansing car, he went into an explanation of how the quality control at Lansing was so much better than that at any of the other assembly plants. The way he described it, you could eat off of the floors at the Lansing plant, quality control was so good. I haven't seen inferior quality control with my '69 4-4-2 but it is apparent with my '70 GTO, also a Fremont car. The GTO originally came with "455 H.O." stickers, below the GTO sticker on each fender. The car has a 400cid engine. As well, the "emission and tune-up" decal under the hood on the GTO is for 455cid engine, not a 400cid engine.
The dealership President went on to describe how, in later dealerships that he owned, he would get GMC tailgates and emblems on Chevy pickups built at Fremont, as well as some other oddities.
I believe that when we restore our Oldsmobiles, we probably recognize some of the shortcomings and correct them during the restoration process. I haven't heard, nor do I know, of any quality control issues that would seriously affect the operation of a vehicle years later. Accordingly, for me, anyway, where the car was built wouldn't have an impact now on if I were to buy it or not.

Being born and raised in the Lansing area, I will lean heavily towards Lansing built cars. Probably for the right car for a smoking deal that would change my mind.
I realize that some cars were built elsewhere i.e. 1985-87 442's and there is no choice on something like that. Which I have owned one those out Pontiac, MI
and my Bravada was out of Moraine, OH.
