Interesting detail in 1966 Cutlass trunk floor

This morning I was cutting some panels out of a 1966 Cutlass parts car that I want to weld into a 1967 442 project car. I spotted OLDS stamped into the trunk floor near the spare tire hold down. Do you guys think this is a factory stamp or was the trunk floor changed out sometime in the past? Most of these cars I've messed with have rusty trunk floors, so maybe I've just missed this detail in the past. John

P.S. this car has a really clean frame... with the exception of the munched left front ear! So if anybody needs a portion of a 1966-67 frame I'll be looking to cut this one up in the near future. John

Wow, this reminds me of a couple of old guys sitting around, hoisting up their shirts to show each other their surgical scars!

Wonder if it was a Fremont thing, since they were building all four carlines?

But then so did Framingham and Doraville.

That might explain it, assembly plants where multiple companies were built.

I'd always thought the floorpans were the same between the different lines. But that clearly doesn't apply to the trunk floor, otherwise there would be no need to identify it as Olds.

Are you sure about Doraville? I've seen the OLDS stamp in a Framingham car before.

It wont be out of place on your 67. I have that in the trunk of my 67. Just on the other side of the pan.

My Lansing 66 has it. My Fremont car doesn't and the raised area is shaped differently, extending farther back.

Mine is Lansing too. But it may have been a stamping plant function, not of assembly plant use.
And it is entirely possible that there is no real "use" of it.

I'm pretty sure it was for assembly identification. The Chevelle uses a shorter trunk floor pan and will not fit an Olds. This would probably be a Fisher Body ID don't you think?

Sure, that is still a possibility. But the Lansing cars have it and don't need it for that purpose. I don't know if they all have them or not. It is guess at best, regardless.
