I'm either an Olds fanatic or just plain crazy

I think I need to seek help. I recently answered a Craigslist ad for a set of SSI Rally Wheels. Nothing special. But for $200.00 I figured why not. I've been recently looking at photos of 1969 Cutlasses with these first generation SS wheels and I really like the look. I eventually got them for $150.00, which isn't my issue.

My issue is, or I should say, my issues are:

Issue One: I don't really need these wheels, I already have a nice set of SSIII wheels, which have been powder coated and have new repro center caps. They look great! So I don't need to replace them.

Issue Two: The wheels I bought were located 180 miles away.

I spent seven plus hours on the road, driving 360 miles round trip just to buy one set of wheels I don't really need.

Luckily they turned out to be nice driver quality wheels. The weather was awesome, in the high 70's, and I gained a new contact. Hopefully this new contact, a fellow car guy, can help me locate a few more old Oldsmobile’s in the Deep South.

But it's official, I am crazy.

We are all a little crazy. I have a couple of buddies that are big influences. I'm trying to influence a younger friend with his 68.
That's why road trips are fun. Meet new people and share the hobby. I love those wheels on the 68-9 bodies. Good buy.

We'll visit you at the "hospital" and sneak in bits of Oldsmobiles for you to incorporate into your "Art Therapy" sessions.

It's always good to have options. I landed a set of five of the JK 69 SSI disc ones a few years back that are good to go other than the back side needing de-rusting. Saves me restoring the ones on the car, and I can run discs up front. The 67 will have to be content with the newer style disc setup though, those 4 piston calipers can bite it.

I've had the bug a long time, too. It started when my dad bought a '66 F85 deluxe - a great date car! And my avatar picture is of me the day after my dad bought his '68 4-4-2 convertible - the car I now have. And yes, I like the SSI wheels on the '68 and '69 model years as well. That's why they are now on my '68!

That's not so bad

I once drove oh 1.5-2 hrs to a boneyard that ended up closed but I spent around $400 there anyhow.

Reminds me of a story and a caution for all of y'all here:

April is just around the corner.

If you find yourself reading a nice April Fool's Story
and get reeled right in
go ahead and comment

If you think it might be a fake story
Please remain silent... and let others get reeled in.

Discuss it all you want at the end of the day or 02PAR...

Thanks.

Most of the cars I find are in Atlanta, with a few in Alabama. Most are three hours away, plus or minus. But I did drive all the way to Evansville, Indiana last December to buy a rusted out 72 Cutlass Supreme. The brakes were frozen so we had to load it on the trailer with the help of a tow truck. Man! That was a long day. It snowed on the way home too. I barely broke even on that one.
I am driving three hours North on Saturday to pick up another old Olds. Wish me luck.

Randy, I love the pictures. It's great to hear stories about one owner, or one family owned cars such as your's. Thanks for sharing.

"I don't really need these wheels". I can't count how many times my Oldsmobile related purchases start with a version of that statement! The way I rationalize it that issue only impacts the price I am willing to pay for the item. The less I "need" the part the less I am willing to pay.

Are you seriously asking us that question? My god that's nothing compared to some of the stories we read in the parts wanted or cars wanted. I think you were just bored and needed to get out of the house with money to burn.

You've got it bad, but you are not alone.
Of the last four Oldsmobiles I have purchased, only one was running.
Two of the four were rescue missions. The cars were about to be scrapped.
I got two running, and the third is a recent purchase. I'm waiting for the weather to break.
