ideal running temp

ideal running temp

Hey what would be the ideal running temp and oil pressure on my 1970 442 with a fresh 455 30 over with a mild cam right now it will run about 200 and the oil pressure is about 25lbs after it warms up thanks in advance

Your initial oil pressure cold should be 50+lbs, 25 warmed up is fine. Your 200 degrees @ operating will vary based on outside air temp. In winter it should stay pretty close to what your thermostat is.

I have close to 60 lbs on cold start and temp fluctuates between 185 and 200 I have a 180 thermostat in the car and everything is new radiator hoses fan clutch water pump I really just want to make sure everything is ideal on the engine I have about 300 miles on it since the rebuild

That's a good operating temp at idle, and it should drop lower at speed.

Yea it drops down while moving since I spun the main bearing last year its been in my head that I'm going to blow up even though I had everything rebuilt

If it drops when you get moving, then you need a better fan, fan clutch, or fan shroud.

Eric my fan shroud does need to be replaced but everything else is brand new

New doesn't matter. Many fan clutches are bad out of the box.

That fan should blow your hair back at idle when the engine's hot.

Remember that an idling engine makes a LOT less heat than an engine under load, so if it won't stay cool at idle, there's not enough air blowing through the radiator.
