hydramatic

i just got into these trans and need some info. are all hydramatics from the early and mid 50's the same?? have a 56 olds hydramtic and found a service manual for a 51 pontiac hydramatic. will this manual help me rebuild my trans?? thanks

Possibly. For that year the "Jetaway" hydramatic was introduced and it is different from the earlier models... Enough so that your manual will be of little help.

Not all 56's were equipped with the newer hydramatics so the best way to tell if I remember right is whether or not you have a "Park" position on the column. If not it would read NDSLR (Neutral, Drive, Super, Low, Reverse).

thanks for info. i dont have the car to check column. got engine and trans for a street rod project
