Address old threads with some penetrating oil, maybe some heat, and run a chase down them before you put the fastener back on.

I find the old threads valuable. Since I am a novice to auto restoration I spend a lot of time reading through many of them. Some are better than others but still a great source of knowledge. Overall CO is a superior site when it comes to experience and knowledge shared by its members. Thanks to all that provide their knowledge and experience.
