how to clean a dirty gas tank

I need a new gas tank but shipping to maui is a killer. The tank is really bad. I have to blow threw the gas line to loosen the crap up from the tank just to have it run for 20 miles or so. What's the best way to clean it. My uncle is tellin me to drop the tank, put a chain in it and rock it back and forth with a gallon or two of gas in it. Any other ideas?

Take it to a good old fashioned radiator shop and ask them to help you out!

X2 on the rad shop. They can leak test it too.
While you have it out, take a look for rusting or pin hole deterioration on the top. If there's nothing, you can also have the tank 'resealed' from inside.

Hey guys, can a radiator shop also sump a stock gas tank? Just curious...I have a RobbMC 1/2" pickup waiting to go in but it's always good to know your options

Sure they could, but why wouldn't you just do it yourself? Are you planning to plug the return line on the sending unit?
Here's a cool article I found to sump a stock tank (Stang forum, but principle is the same): http://www.sn95mustangs.com/index.ph...Stock-Gas-Tank-

Last summer I used the Eastwood kit on mine. My tank was virtually spotless though to begin with. If you have a bunch of crap in there the radiator shop is probably for you.

I am gonna cap the return line for now but eventually I will run a return style regulator. I just figured I'd weigh all the options and maybe sump the tank on the silver car, and save the 1/2" pickup for the convertible.

I've never sumped one before, I didn't know how involved it was...and I don't have a welder so...
