Here's a white elephant!

I got some carbs for my trip set-up a while ago, but the bases were too small. I have had the manifold since 72, but the secondaries kind of "disappeared". Along comes my brother with a can of carb stuff he got from my parents' house that he bought and rehabbed. Says to me: I think this must be yours".
In the can is one of the original secondaries! I thought, Great, now I can get at least one together, but the base wouldn't fit on the body.
the primary was still on the manfold and it was a Rottenchester. The secondaries I have are also Rottenchester, but this base is for a Carter. I knew there were maybe a few that used these, but I don't know the whole story.
Anybody have any history to share?
Here's a pic.
