Help needed, identify part, where to buy?

Hi all,

I have this broken piece in my steering column turn signal assembly. It is a pot metal piece that connects from signal lever to switch assembly, only present in tree mounted hi/lo beam selector models. I don't what it's called or where to get a replacement.

I found a picture online from a fiero, but it looks the same. (Highlighted in green)

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks, Will

I just disassembled two steering columns, one of them was a G-Body Column and I believe it uses the same pivot as the 79 A-Body.... I'll check tomorrow and see if I saved that piece.....

From the information I have, One source calls it a "Dimmer Switch Actuator Pivot", but another calls it "Dimmer Switch Pivot Assembly".... The terminology may differ depending where your wiper switch is located... the G-Bodies have the wiper switch as part of the Turn Signal Lever and as a result the pivot is part of the wiper switch.... I'll know more if I did keep all the parts from the columns I dismantled... As for part numbers, three show up depending on type of column, Standard, Tilt, & Tilt / Telescopic and all of those part numbers appear to be discontinued....

Photos of pivot assy

These are photos of the pivot assembly I removed from the G-Body column recently, unfortunately it is part of the wiper switch in this case.... If your vehicle is a 79, most likely your wiper switch is on the dash and this assembly will not work for your application... You will have to find an older column to get the part from, one that does not have wiper controls in the directional lever....

Thanks, you're right my part is not quite like that, I have the dash mounted wiper control. My stem has the cruise control button on the end, up/down for turns and forward to toggle hi-lo beams.

Looks like the part I need is GM 7833704 which one site describes as "1978 THRU 1979 GM HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH PIVOT ( 2ND DESIGN )."

Unfortunately this is not in production any where that I can find and may actually cost more than a complete used column.

I'll keep looking, thanks again CRUZN 66.

.
You are correct... Two other part numbers in addition to 7833704 that I had found were 7833702 & 7832681, which also have been discontinued.... a used column is most likely your best option, at least you will have some spare parts in case something else should go wrong....

Thanks for the link, lvnfld.

I went through several of the catalogs and could not find the part I need. Looks like a used column is the solution.

Is there a self service salvage yard by you that you can go and get just that part or the whole column?

Try DVAP they are showing a 4 dr. salon and what appears to be a Hurst. I am not sure if they are the same part for console shift and column.

Turn Signal Pivot Assembly (without wipers in the column)

My company does have a limited supply of these pivots. Be warned though, they are expensive. Here is a link to that part (and our website. I hope that helps

Doug,

Welcome to the site. I was just about to provide the link to your website. You guys have a lot of tough-to-find parts. Thanks.

Thanks Joe
We try to help folks with steering column issues. Our inventory starts when the ignition and key was added into the column. We see you have a lot of older vehicle owners (60's) and sadly we cannot help them.
We appreciate the opportunity to help others find what they need.
Keep up the good work
Doug
