Post Help inform me on this '85 Olds?

Hello folks.
New user here obviously.

I wanted to ask about the 1985 Olds Cutlass Supreme in this ad.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oldsmobile-C...m=221963320646

It's very near me in my area and I actually sent a message to the seller asking if I could stop by to look at, and drive the car.
That was two days ago and I've recieved no response, which is unfortunate.

I'm very interested in buying this car. I've been wanting a '68 or a good '81-'86. I often check online for these cars being sold.

The car here is being sold at a very cheap price for the condition I'm seeing in the pictures, but I'm by no means an expert, which is why I would like to have a second opinion from some of you guys here. On both the car, and car buying in general, because truth be told I'm not very familiar in buying vehicles.

I've been lurking here for a while and was hoping you could all better inform me on having an Olds.

Welcome to the site. Going from a 68 to a 81-86 is quite a stretch in culture. My car appreciation mostly stopped at the year 72. The car in the link is a plain old run of the mill V6 Cutlass and seems to be priced as such. You sure won't find a 68 in that condition for that price. It really boils down to what you really want.

The '67s and '68s are very beautiful cars, as I find a lot of similar muscle cars around those years are.

My grandpa once owned a 1979-87 model Mercury Grand Marquis, and a 1980s Ford Econoline van when I was very young.

I think, because of these cars, I essentially grew on the incredibly cozy cloth interiors of the 80s.

When it boils down to choosing between a '68 and an '81, I really would want to spoil myself with the interior of the '81.

There's simply good mix of sport and luxury to be had here.
The car is attractive inside and out for me.

I hear you about remembering the '80s....but you should be able to buy 3 of those cars for the $3250 asking price. Condition isn't great - miles aren't low - and options are weak (V6). You can find 100's of nicer cars for less money. Good luck in your search - lots of nice stuff available this time of year as people don't want to pay to store cars over the winter.

X2. I'd say the seller is at least 50% optimistic on the price. Be aware of the rear frame rail rust problems on these cars. This is so common that repro rear frame rails are available.

If there is rust in the wheel well areas / quarters, I would also be highly suspect of trunk floor rust issues, especially between the trunk floor and frame rails as Joe mentioned above.... I have also had experiences with frame cracks above the axle housing areas....
