Has anyone ever seen this ?

I was cleaning out an old barn, mainly looking for old tools and came across this.
A primitive window defroster fully intact in it's original wooden box with all hardware and instructions.
No date anywhere, but I'm thinking it's from the 1930's - 40's ?

In the instructions it refers to 12 volts, so that could help narrow it down a bit.
When was 12 volts introduced into the auto industry ?

I can answer one question , 12 volt started in chevy land mid 50's 1955. I will assume all GM products followed.. Fords did not start till 1964 I believe. Chrysler was 1956 OR 1957. I have never seen what you have posted...

You might be interested to know that Oldsmobile started 12 volt in 1953. I would say"Chevy land" was a follower, not a leader.

Yeppers, some Buicks, but not the straight eight cars, which retained a 6V system. 1954 all Buicks joined the party.

My very first car was a 1953 Olds 88 and it defiantly had a 12v system. My aunt had a retired and parked 1952 Olds 98 that I scavenged parts from. It was 12v also because I used the generator, starter and wonder bar radio and other miscellaneous stuff from it. Also got the 4bbl carb and intake from it. Maybe a few 1952's got out the door with 12v systems.

For date and other interesting information, look up the patent. The number is too indistinct for me to read in the photo.
