Lightbulb Has any removed the complete A/C unit from the Engine Compartment

I am working on my 70 Olds Cutlass cleaning up the engine compartment. I want to remove the entire A/C unit it one piece. It was supposedly converted to R134 and worked well before I started working on the front of the car. Thus, the reason I do not want to crack it open. I already have the core support off the car, the a/c coil that was in the core support is being supported by a wooded frame sitting on the frame horns. The compressor would be simple enough to remove. That brings us to the Evaperator box on the firewall, it looks like I can just unbolt the whole evaperator box and remove the coil, the compressor, and the Evaperator box all at one time.( with a little help of course)

Has anyone done this? or is there anything I should be aware of?

I wanted to do the same thing, but the ccondenser coil being forward of the radiator would not come out on my 72... If IIRC the line passes thru the core support.

I know the 71-2 core support is slightly different than the 70, but it will come out of a 70 core support with a little manuvering..

if that is the case on the 70, I wish you success... when I took the 72 parts car apart it gave a little pffft as the last of the pressure released!... at least 15 years since it was serviced!

I did it on a 72 Cutlass parts car also. The radiator and engine were already out and the condensor mounts were broken so I took the screws/nuts out on the firewall and the compressor was already off the engine, so I just unhooked all the wires and took the whole mess out of the car.
