Hard Copies

Hard Copies

I have some electrical work to do and have found the wonderful documents on Wild About Cars are difficult to read, at least the wiring diagrams are. Many of the pages have text and diagrams mixed, since they are black and white they are often overlaid and can't be read. Does anyone know of a way to purchase hard copies of the wiring diagrams or service manuals?

That's why most of us recommend that in addition to downloading a copy for free from WildAboutCars, you also buy a copy.

All of the major automotive literature dealers have copies, and you can generally find a number of them on sale on eBay at any given time. If you wait and watch a few weeks, you can usually get a good deal.

The best thing is to buy an original shop manual for you car. ebay has them but sort them by price since it will vary a lot. Anybody with an old car should have a shop manual. I think the originals are better than the ones sold on CD.

I'm am guessing you are looking for a 70 442 manual. There are a couple on ebay for $55. I would guess they are similar to my 69 manual which has great colored wire diagrams in the chassis electrical section. I paid $35 for mine in 1984 so with inflation that seems to be a fair price unless the bottom has fallen out of the value of these things.

Oops, those are reproductions which are probably fine but there is an original for $69 and change.

As Eric and Glenn both noted, nothing really replaces the OEM manuals. DON'T get a repopped manual, get OEM. The repops have the same bad scanning you are describing. Something I found helpful was using my OEM (72 CSM) because it has color electrical schematics. Now my eyes aren't the greatest, but I found that using a magnifying glass worked really well to see the small stuff.

I'll give WAC (wmachines & jerseybob) a lot of credit for attempting to get all their information organized and available for everyone to use - especially since it's all done on a voluntary basis. Maybe one day they'll be able to upgrade the noted manuals that have unclear pics and schematics, but for now there's also some responsibility on us not to expect the world and not pay a dime for it.

If this is for the 1970 CSM, I just did a quick web search and there are a fair number of them in OEM used condition at the high end of what I'd pay. Don't forget to ask the seller to ship using the 'book rate'. I understand it's way cheaper than regular post.

Thanks for the help

Appreciate the help, was able to find an original service manual and assembly manual on Ebay last night. Also ordered a Fischer body manual and an owners manual.

I have the parts manuals and IPB on CD but the comment about the service manual on the CD is right on, just not legible on fine detail.

Yup, that would be Bobby Fischer. Lost to Boris Spassky in the first 2 rounds of the 72 World chess championships, which he ended up winning.
