gray paint for jack base and hook

for those jack bases and hooks (cradles) and the wiper motor mount plate that is painted gray, does anyone have a correct color gray they've used? I bought the plasticoat T-37 federal gray and compared it to the backside of a wiper motor mount plate and it's not the same. original has more of a blue gray tint while the plasticoat is, well, gray. While I wasn't looking to have something mixed, I may look into that as well. But just curious if anyone found something closer in the spray can

Thanks,
Chris

I had a can mixed at NAPA Auto Parts. They had an original piece of mine that they scanned and created the mix from the scan. It came out lighter than the original - a little too light for my taste but that's what I used anyway.

Paint

I have used Plasti-Kote 364 Dove Gray for many years on all my restored jacks.
In my opinion it is as close a color as you can get.
Hope this helps.

I have seen different shades of original jacks that were very nice and not faded. I do not think the factory was perfect on the color in this area from batch to batch. I used the inline tube jack paint and matched perfect to an extra jack I had but not so much to another one.

I kind of stopped answering these questions, because it seems like whatever I used is not good enough for many others here. I used Krylon Dove grey spray. My can is old, but it was a dead match for the jack an wiper motor mount. Really, no 2 cars will be the same exact color unless they were built the same exact day and the parts were painted at the same time for both with the same humidity + temp, etc.

plasticoat doesn't list a dove gray, perhaps they no longer carry 364 dove gray
http://www.plastikote.com/pdf/PKT03_...US_Catalog.pdf

I located a post that krylon dove gray is 1605, however that number has changed as it's a black.

I'm going to look at a valspar #165816 now

I'm trying to get something close

Even on a 1000 point car I would not be to worried about this one. Without having it out of the trunk and next to another one, nobody will be able to tell. Even then there are only opinions and no standard to say what jack color is 100% correct. Like I said above, I had more than one real nice original jack parts and two different shades.

That's why you never park two Olds the same color next to each other in a Olds show. That's just me and maybe in real life it does happen.

Those parts were not sprayed, they were dipped in the water vat tank with a thin coating of paint.

All of the smaller parts were dipped - cheaper and faster to do.

I used Rust-Oleum Smoke Grey 7786. It matched perfectly to the one in my W30 convert but was lighter than the hardtop and darker than the SX But I would use it on any of them again.

no luck with the valspar number, going to go to a store which carries that brand and look

the krylon may have changed to 51605, I'll look into that.

I'll look into the rust o leum also.

I'm really more concerned with the wiper mount plate since it's easily seen. I understand about the jack base and hook.

the OCD is in full force
