With no W30 documentation, you are taking a risk.

That's a plus, but as stated without the build sheet (not likely) or broadcast card (possible) there is no way to PROVE a W30.

Saw this on eBay. Nice looking W-Machine, for sure. I didn't look at it too hard, but it has a few cosmetic issues. Missing the black inside the W-25 scoops, shouldn't it have the pinstripe along the lower lip of the trunk, too? It could be real, but the lack of documentation would personally make me a bit nervous.

Also has broken fan shroud. Missing front lower valance looks like and something under the dash is not connected by looking at the pics near the clutch pedal
I really like the car tho. Just not sure of the value here. What do you think on the price ???

You'll find people more likely to offer suggestions if you post the link to the auction.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Oldsmob...-/262722263215

Brand new red inner fenders are always a warning sign on a "W-30".
Why is the clutch safety switch not connected?
VIN derivative on the trans looks legit. No evidence of grinding or restamp.
The busted fan shroud is pretty silly on a $70K car. It's $100 to replace it.
Real W-27 axle housing is worth plenty by itself
The "numbers matching" simply means that the block and trans case are original to the car. Nothing proves it's a W-30. Unless there is documentation (broadcast card or some other factory paperwork), remain skeptical.

This car's only about 90 min from me. I've not seen it before in the area.

Thanks joe. It's been on eBay a few times now. First it was an auction that didn't meet reserve then listed at 76,500 and now reduced down to 69,500
There are some questions that need to be answered

The 4-4-2 badge spacing on the deck lid looks a bit off. I think a great example to compare this to is the black/red W-30 that was for sale last year from a member on here. Lacked the documentation but looked a lot better than this car and it was listed for $50k.

Yeah, that bothered me also, but it's likely due the stripes being mis-located during the repaint. Of course, I'm always skeptical of a car that's been completely redone like this. Unless there is concrete photo documentation of the configuration prior to restoration, you have no idea what parts are original and which ones were added during the resto.

It's been debated a lot, but the w30 emblem should be slightly below center on the side stripe.

Don't know why, but think there are many original paint examples showing this.

Bunch engine bay details off on that thing. Nothing crazy, but lot of money for a car that's close to a "driver".

Pretty cool car.

I don't know if it would be worth that much with all of the faults listed above. You can find a pristine 1970 Cutlass driver for less than $15,000.

Here's one you could cruise to Coffee and Cars in and win all sorts of trophies. With a car like the W30 on E-bay there's a risk it would become a piece of furniture (i.e. a trailer queen).

Found out car sold at Mecun in Harrisburg in July. Mecum site shows it selling for 61K. Owner has no knowledge of history of the car. Trying to get more info to make a smart decision on it

Current owner selling at an apparent loss (selling price plus buyers fees) a few months after purchase? I'd be real cautious - almost sounds like trying minimize losses. Could be other reasons of course.

That's a ton of cash for an undocumented car. They did include a short video, but if it were me, I'd either need many many more pictures or a visit in person to feel comfortable making an offer. And that's if I were even considering buying without a broadcast card, which I can't say I recommend, numbers matching and W-27 or not - at least not for that kind of money.

I mean, if you're buying cause you like it and that's all you care about, that's one thing...but if you would ever need to resell, well that's a totally different ballgame.

Little much IMO. Nice looking- sounds good too, but if painted, whats under the new paint. That kind of money calls for in in person inspection. likely an AS IS sale too.

Or you could wait for a documented one to come up for sale.

its worth a look the work that has been done to it is not cheep. like others have said it might need some Tlc in areas but that just part of old cars . If the buyer is not a old car fan he may have took a back road trip with the belted tires had it hunt and float like old cars do and said this just isn't for me and picked it up on a whim ?? would be a nice car to own . That rear end , nice color . Good luck in the hunt
