Goldenstar bumpers

Anyone ever hear about or bought any bumpers by a company called Goldenstar? I was on the Tamraz website the other day and came across the following ad

http://www.tamrazsparts.com/71-72-cu...chrome-plated/

That is correct, $283.94 for a new rear bumper with free shipping! The only thing that is keeping me from buying it, is that I have never heard of the supplier Goldenstar.

I can't comment on the quality of the bumpers for a Cutlass; however, I did use Goodmark to re chrome the bumpers on my 71 98. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page Goodmark is listed under "Brands."

They did an ok job for the price but their customer service was bad. If I had to re chrome bumpers again in the future I wouldn't do business with them.

I haven't used them but I've heard good things.
My back bumper is showing it's age. If I address it I think I'll go this route & save the original. $300 & a one day job vs how much more money & having the car sit there with no bumper for how long?

All of the blanks are the same for these cheaper bumpers. Just different companies doing the chroming.

Thanks for the info. I kinda figured that these would be inexpensive repops. Basically what I'm trying to decide is, is it worth it? My car is a driver. I have her to enjoy and not to win perfect scores at shows.

Will these inexpensive repops last for a few years? Does the chrome flake off early? I'm ready to work on some of the basic fitment issues. I'm just worried about the quality of the chrome.

NorthStar now part of Keystone out of the twin cities, Pauls in PA. Both are high quality chrome houses. Little trick to keeping bumpers looking good is to clear coat the back sides right after a rechrome and keep a good coat of carnuba on the pretty side. Be sure to use the correct pads to apply and remove the wax and if you drop it on the ground toss it and get a fresh applicator. The slightest grit on the pad or the bumpers will scratch the hell out of a nice triple plated show chrome job.
All the repops Ive seen to date are junk. OEM bumpers replated is best IMO.

The chrome is a solid "OK". It's certainly wavy along the flat sections, but it's sparkly. Inspect it closely to make sure it's not chipped.
As far as "worth it", well, that's really up to you. For me they are at this point. A high quality rechromed OEM will be two to three times the cost of the repops. I am hanging onto my originals just in case they can be saved.

The problem of whether the chrome will last or not will apply to any rechromed OEM as well. We had our front bumper rechomed by a local DFW shop that was "reputable" back in '98. Chips started coming off in '00. It was completely ruined by '01.
