Getting stuff out of crossmember

I was swapping frame side motor mounts on my 66 and dropped most of the nuts inside of the crossmember. I stuck my finger up into the hole in the middle but I don’t think it’s big enough to fish around for anything( I think I felt a socket in there though). Wondering if I can get in with a magnet from anywhere or if I should just cut a bigger hole out in the bottom?

Where do I go in from? I don’t think the little hole underneath is big enough, at least for the socket that I felt.

With a strong magnet (earth magnet) you should be able to drag anything metallic to the closest hole that they will come out of.A small one has the pull of 45 lbs or more. Found at Home Depot for under 10 bucks..... Tedd

Turn it upside down and shake it out.

air hose with blowgun and a piece of brake line fitted to it. it'll bend anywhere you need it to and 100 lbs. air will blow it out of it.

^^^This. Go through the holes where the lower control arms attach.

Yet another good reason NOT to change the frame mounts when swapping engines. Just use the motor mounts that match the frame mounts.
